Semin? Are you kidding me? That was Morrisonn's guy. Semin's responsibility was blocking the pass to the 2nd guy.

Morrisonn did a sliding poke check into the corner. Semin couldn't have expected the defenseman to take himself out of the play. Plus the other D was nowhere to be found....

I was about to complain about the line compositions, but they scored so all is forgiven.

Woohoo, January is almost over!

JANUARY OPPONENT RESULT

Jan 01....Tampa Bay........W 7-4
Jan 03....NY Rangers.......W 2-1
Jan 06....Philadelphia......W 2-1 SO
Jan 09....Columbus.........L 0-3
Jan 10....@ Montreal.......L 4-5
Jan 13....Edmonton.........L 2-5
Jan 14....@ Pittsburgh.....W 6-3
Jan 17....Boston.............W 2-1
Jan 19....@ NY Islanders..W 2-1 OT
Jan 20....@ Ottawa..........L 2-3
Jan 27....@ Boston..........L 2-3 OT
Jan 31....Detroit

At 6-4-1, they've done better in January than I would have expected, taking three of four points from Boston, beating some solid teams. The only one I'd want back is the regulation loss to Ottawa. That's not a bad record at all, though.

Awesome first guys. I've been looking forward to this game.

I'll never understand why Babcock throws out our fourth line at certain times, but oh well.

Looking forward to the second!

Good first period. That goal at the end of the first was huge. Theo has been pretty good.

The Russian 1st line failed to generate a single scoring chance in that period.

They need to get their act together if the Caps want to win this.

Ovy and Semin in particular didn't play well (although #8 had like 5 hits).

One thing I've noticed is that the Wings have been well prepared to take advantage of the Caps' system on break-outs. A defenseman pinches and Detroit has a guy immediately jump into the play for an odd-man break.

I get annoyed with Joey B sometimes but I much rather get annoyed by Joe then hear the opposing team complain about a hit for 4 or 5 minutes or give their opinion on ovechkin/crosby/malkin/semin.

Honestly, I don't miss Alzner. Not with Poti back. Maybe I am more patient in this area. Whatever the reason Alzner's game tailed off. I don't think this is a bad thing.
