Kovalchuk to the Rangers

It's obvious the Rangers need scoring help, and Kovalchuk would be a big boost. I would probably trade anyone but Staal, Lundqvist, and Anisimov; maybe Grachev. I am not too sure on what Atlanta needs, so I'll let you guys make up a fitting proposal.

think about it: you're asking for Kovalchuk, but you're unwilling to give up Anisimov. sense?

Well, Atlanta doesn't need your overpaid players, so how exactly are the Rangers going to be able to afford Kovalchuk?

Before this becomes a 3 page wreck, let's just stop this now; it's not happening. Of course, however that won't stop the 400 proposals Gomez, Dubinsky, Rozsival, and a 2nd round pick from being posted.

so lets say atlanta has a deal the rangers are going to accept but they see Ansimov, is he really gonna hold up teh deal? Dont think so.. IDK if the rangers have the assets to get a player like Kovy but it would definetly start with

Callahan
Del Zotto
Sangs

and more obviously

I think you need to head over the the Ranger boards and see where Anisimov is ranked on our prospect list...

Rangers don't have enough depth to land Kovalchuk. And with all the salary problems it isn't even worth there time.

They just named him captain. He's not going to be traded during the current season, otherwise they would have picked someone else.

Besides any offer would start with Marc Stall. Which usually makes Ranger fans angry.

So basically, you want a superstar player, while only giving up some good prospects (not great prospects) and overpaid veterans.

I can really see Atlanta being interested.

Trading Kovulchuk may very well become a reality for Atlanta. I suspect they will want a nice package of locked up NHL talent as well choice prospects

To NYR: Kovulchuk,

To ATL: Gomez, Callahan, Sanguinetti, Wiikman and conditional 1st in 2010 if he signs with NYR

You really know nothing about Rangers prospects if you're surprised by where he's ranked. Anisimov is 4th in scoring in the AHL.

Jeff Tambellini was like 7th in scoring last year in AHL while playing like 20 less games than anyone else, that got him were?

Id probably say Dubinsky, Anisimov, Dawes, 1st 09 for Kovalchuk. You get Dubinsky who may peak as a first line center. You get Anisimov who projects to be at least a 2nd line center, Dawes who is a good role player and a 1st. If they want they can either switch Anisimov for either one of Sanguinetti or Del Zotto.

I know salary cap wise it makes no sense but I think we could find a way to move cap.

There is a difference between a 25 year old being top 10 in AHL scoring and a 20 year old being top 5.

It got him to the NHL, which is the point of developing prospects. The fact that he's doing nothing at this level has no bearing on any other prospect at all.

Not to mention Anisimov is in his 2nd professional season and is only 20 years old.

To ATL: Staal, Dawes, 1st 09
To NYR: Kovalchuk

Done?

Edit: As a Ranger fan, I wouldn't do this. Just seeing if the unbiased fans see this as a fair proposal.

Staal would have to be part of the package for any trade involving Kovalchuk.

If the Rangers were going to seriously pursue acquiring Kovalchuk, they would HAVE to find a taker for Gomez or Redden, whether it be Atlanta or someone else. But they can't afford to pay the price to trade for Kovalchuk. They'd be better off clearing cap space and waiting till Kovalchuk hits free agency, which he most certainly will, and then using the freed up cap space to sign him.

By the time Kovalchuk becomes a UFA, Naslund's 4 million dollar salary will be off the books, also.
