What should Bertuzzis punishment be?

I would think most everyone has seen and heard about the attack on Steve Moore. With Moore facing the other way, Bertuzzi punched him in the side of the head. The punch knocked Steve Moore unconcious. As Moores unconcious body fell to the ice, Bertuzzi fell with him, smashing his face into the ice. As Moores motionless body lay on the ice, a pool of blood formed around his head. He was carried off on a stretcher.

What should happen to Todd Bertuzzi?

When it happened I was thinking he should be banned for life, but now that I've had time to think about it I would say suspend him indefinitely and if there is a lockout next year he can come back after that, if there is no lockout, let the suspension carry into the first ten games of next year.

why is there nothing in between 10 games and lifetime ban?

personally, i'd go with remainder of regular season and then *some* playoff games. i'm not sure how many.

Rest of regular season + first round of playoffs, and possibly some more.

Ditto for me. Actually 20 would be OK...probably the minimum I would accept

I don't think so. Have you guys seen the Matt Johnson punch? In my opinion it was worse. He got 12 games.

Rest of the regular season would be appropriate to the NHL I imagine.

I think this was worse then the Johnson punch, but that is largely because I believe Bertuzzi deliberately drove Moore's head into the ice. Just the punch, 10-12. With pro-wrestling manuever, the season, include playoffs.

I'm with you. If I were "Hockey Czar" :p , he'd be gone for the rest of the regular season and Vancouver's entire first round playoff series.

I don't know. There's really no precedent.

More than 10. That's all I know for sure.

But not just to punish Bertuzzi. I don't know if the Avs play the Canucks again this season, but what if they meet in the playoffs? It's going to get really ugly. Not just the Avs, I'm sure other teams will see this and may try to exact revenge on Bertuzzi if a game gets "out of hand" as it did tonight.

For Bertuzzi's sake, I hope he's suspended for a while.

I agree that comparing the initial punch Johnson's was worse because Beukeboom had no idea he was behind him about to sucker punch him, where as at least Moore knew Bertuzzi was chasing him and grabbing his jersey.

The driving him into the ice after the punch might make it more than a 12 game suspension though.

I think he should miss the rest of the year including playoffs. That wasn't an option so I didn't vote.

Rest of the regular season. In an attempt to be cute, with your poll you failed to include some other options.

Since the poll options were so poorly designed I have to answer instead.

Part of me want to really throw the book at Bertuzzi. Suspension until start of next season.

But that would be perhaps a bit harsh, since I am so disgusted by headhunting in general. Rest of the regular season+first playoff round seems more fitting overall.

About 20 games seems fitting. That would be in line with what others have got and here we have the whole ugly business of threatening to go after the player weeks before it happened, which will sink pretty much any defense Bertuzzi wants to use.

This was a vicious attack, I think Colin Campbell has no choice but to make this one of the most severe suspensions ever, Todd is a repeat offender, and Colin doesn't want criminal charges to be considered. I say Todd gets the rest of the season plus playoffs and 15 games next season.

Rest of the season. Matt Johnson ended Jeff Beukeboom's career on a very similar play and received 12 games. Bert will get at least the rest of the season and maybe a few playoff games.

"12 games" is ambigious IMO (jsut like McSorley's "23 games"), but it is fitting in this case because Matt Johnson got 12 games, so there is precident for that kind of incident.

I don't want Bert to miss the playoffs, but if he misses it because he's a moron and screws the rest of the team, I can take it. It's not Colin Campbell's fault Bertuzzi is a moron.

And Bert is a "repeat offender"... sorta. He hasn't been suspended for cheapshots before, but there was the 10 game incident "last time around" with the Avs.

Another 10-12 games is what I'd "hope" as a Canucks fan, an additional round of playoffs from a more objective point of view.

2 years in jail?! Come on... this sort of stuff happens in the real world and wouldn't cost a person 2 years of jail. Not to mention this happened in a game, not just on the streets. I say 10 games, atleast.

Hockey does take place in the real world. Injuries sustained on the ice actually have effect off the ice as well. If someone walked up behind you on the street, threw a haymaker at the side of your head, then rode your face into the pavement, giving you a concussion, possibly low-grade brain damage, wouldn't you want them to go to jail? Try to look at it from Steve Moores perspective.
