Redden, Gomez, Drury, Kalinin, and a 1st in '10 for Kovalchuk.
I really dont know why they would do this move. Its just unrealistic and unfair. First off they are adding over 20 million in longterm contracts. I really doubt Atlanta is in the financial position to do this. If they were they'd just re-sign Kovalchuk. Second, I think Redden has a limited NTC, with ATL as one of the teams. Also Drury has a NMC. You cant trade him and I doubt he would waive it to go to Atlanta.
It would be more like Staal, Dubinsky, Dawes, 1st 09 for Kovalchuk. I would give up Dubi, but I really dont want to give up Staal. I think they would demand him though. If you want Kovalchuk, say goodbye to Staal.
i would think that atlanta would consider drury, rosival, prucha, and a 1st rounder for Kovalchuk and Exelby. Drury in our opinion is undervalued b/c we need a sniper and he cant give us that but he is a very good player, and would be very useful to a team which has no defense. I'm not being hopeful on this. We give them Prucha who could be a very good offensive threat on a team that gives him time and security, Drury who will help young players develop like he did in NY and will help that team become more defensive and a better penalty killing team, rosival who is improving will be able to do the same job as exelby if not better. The first round pick will also benefit them not limiting them to one of our prospects.
IMO, even if Kovalchuk came to the Rangers I doubt our scoring situation would be much better. Look how this team plays offensively and I wonder if any player changes are suddenly going this to fix this problem.
