From Zipay:

Quote:
Prospect Artem Anismov , just called up, is skating with Aaron Voros and Lauri Korpikoski, Chris Drury is with Brandon Dubinsky and Nik Zherdev.

Two lines are stable: Naslund-Gomez-Callahan; Sjostrom-Betts-Orr

I can understand Korpikoski but Voros????? Ever since Prucha was taken out of the lineup the Rangers have looked like crap. Put Prucha in with Ani and Korpedo and you have yourself a fast, hard working line.

Sjo Betts Orr

Gomez with his talent>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dubinsky with his talent...

Isn't that how we judge these players?

Voros is a bum, I don't get it. Prucha > Voros. Heck I'd put Sjostrom there before Voros. I don't get this coach.

Oh and BTW, Dawes is scratched for Voros too, awesome.

The better russians in this league are not nearly as soft as they used to be. Malkin and Ovechkin are the models now and players are becoming less and less stereotypical. Hell, everyone is touting AA and Grachev as forwards that will finally give us size. Zherdev isn't big but certainly doesn't shy away from contact. I know you just like to play devils advocate though

Not that I don't like that we got him, but have you seen Reitz's numbers? Don't sell Kalinin short because him and Redden get ragged on for their salaries. Kalinin's a better defenseman.

That's not the point. More often than not, Russians love playing together when they have the chance. In this case, the possibility is certainly there because their styles compliment each other.

Don't forget that you also need to talk to your teammates on the ice, and considering both of these guys (especially Artie) aren't exactly English professors, might not be a bad idea if you had the debuting rookie on the ice with someone who he can communicate with.

It isn't about being soft either, and while Ovechkin breaks the Russian mold, most of these other guys are still taught to play the game somewhat differently. Russian hockey is all about puck possession. Dump and chase is not a big part of Russian hockey. Maybe more so than it used to be, yes, but it isn't as big an element as it is in North American hockey.

These guys both like to set-up and create. They have some size, but they aren't bangers by nature. It's something they're capable of doing, but it isn't their natural inclination.

I think putting Anisimov with Zherdev gives him the best chance to show what he's capable of. It's a lot smarter than playing him with Voros.

Dubinsky is lucky he wasn't sent to Hartford earlier this season...

I don't get it tbh... Voros won't be the same player as he was back in October.

Jason Krog hasn't done anything in the NHL. I'm pretty sure most of us agree that Dubinsky is going to be a pretty good 2nd liner at some point. A lot of players go through sophomore slumps.

No one is saying that Gomez isn't a better player than Dubinsky. But in a salary cap league, Dubinsky (when he plays the way he has shown he is capable of playing, and when he plays the way I expect him to play throughout his career) is more valuable, even when he gets a decent raise, than Gomez is at his current salary.

That's why you'd have a lot more teams interested in acquiring Dubinsky than you would Gomez.

Hey I dislike Voros as much as anybody but he did play an effective game versus Boston so I guess he deserves another chance tonight. I'd rather have Prucha in there for freaking worthless Colton Orr though. No one ever talks about benching him.

Voros???

Wow. Well folks don't expect AA to do anything with that waste on his wing.

Bingo. Pre-Cap, Gomez is a lot more valuable but not today where a lot of teams just like the Rangers are in cap trouble.

I actually think it could work. He should clog up the front of the net while speedy Korpedo and shifty AA do their thing. We'll see how it works out, but the style of Voros is one you'd expect to work with these two.

you know what kind of line I want to have? the bruins first line. a playmaking center, a power forward with some skill, and a sniper. To bad Gomez doesn't connect with Zherdev, nor has Dubinsky, really. Our only hope of that happening with the players we have in our organization is Zherdev/AA and... wait, we don't have a winger that fits that skilled power forward mold. Nevermind!

I'm a frequent Voros-basher, but I'm pretty sure everyone here who dislikes Voros isn't taking issue with his style of play. When he plays his game, he can be somewhat useful. But more often than that, he doesn't. More often than not, he doesn't do anything.

He's also a horrid skater.

Can Voros play the same role Brodie Dupont in the AHL.
