Penner for Morrison

With Anaheim struggling, and Edmonton needing some veteran presence, I propose this:

to EDM:
Brendan Morrison + 3rd

to ANA:
Dustin Penner

Penner gets reunited with Getzlaf, the Oilers get a checking line center with grit, and a pick to boot.

You would do this? I don't think Penner's slipped that much yet.

Consider it a salary dump as well. Brendan is a UFA next year.

Switch the pick. If Anaheim agrees to a salary dump like this then Edm is adding at least a 3rd to sweeten the deal.

This one actually could work. Not sure about the cap numbers but everything else looks good.

Ever hear of buy low sell high? Penner's value is at an all time low. I do think he'll turn into the 30 goal guy we hoped for. I'd rather keep him and his salary then throw him away for garbage.

Capspace is a valuable asset my friend. Not to mention, the Oilers are in the playoff bubble, and a guy like Morrison (mini-Horc) could bring some FO ability, grit, and leadership to our team. He would be great in the playoffs too!

Why do Ducks have to throw in a pick?? Penner's contract is too long and too pricy. Morrison comes off the books in the summer.

Ducks are finally getting rid of the last bad contracts (Marchant), the last thing Ducks need is another bad contract.

Exactly!

The oilers now know that they paid too much for Penner so, dump his big salary and acquire a player that can help them for this year's playoffs and sayonara for next year.

Penner, reuniting with Getzlaff and Perry will make them a legitimate 1st line again.

Ducks have enough cap trouble, why would they add an overpaid forward and a pick in exchange for a guy that will come off the books next year.

Explain why the Ducks would want that 4.25 Cap hit for 40 points for the next 3 years that Penner would bring?

Just at a quick glance at the Ducks roster, that would make Penner the 3rd Highest Paid player on the Ducks....

The Ducks will need ALL of there cap space this off season to sign or replace the 8 Unrestricted Free Agents they have.

You mean the 3rd highest paid forward, I'm assuming.

They are one. But I'm referring to when Penner was playing with Perry and Getz not Kunitz.

So Brendan Morrison (ufa)is worth a 1st,2nd,and a third ??????

Anh won that offer sheet hands down......not sure but the high draft pick of Tyler Myers will be huge, although he's Buffalo as per Anh trade of draft picks.

Ah.

Well, this isn't a trade that will happen. Penner makes too much, and just doesn't bring the effort consistently.

The only forward position that Anaheim is likely looking into is 2nd line center.

since we all know Penner is inconsistent, we should wait until he gets on a hot streak when his value is high and than trade him. I would'nt do this deal though, I think we just need a solid mean defenceman coming back. I've noticed Brodziak is alright in the faceoff dot lately, I would just move him up to 3rd line center to get some grit.

As an oiler yes.

But his contract fits nicely with Getzlaff and Perry's contracts.

Penner's a first liner only with anaheim imo. Otherwise, he's a 2 or a 3.

His contract fits nicely with Getzlaf and Perry? Are you forgetting that Getzlaf has more points in the Western Conference than any other player? And even Perry has substantially more points than Penner.

By comparison, his contract looks worse with those two players, not better.

I doubt Anaheim wants Penner back with his current contract. You can have Morrison for free though.

Bold 1 precludes bold 2.

No thanks to Penner and his contract. The Ducks like the expiring contract.

If the Ducks look to compete this season (which I'm currently leaning against), I'll give the Oiler a 3rd just to take Morrison.

I wouldn't mind, but not with his current contract.
