I predict Salo plays exactly one regular season game for the Avalanche and Gilbert developes into a top blueliner with good offensive numbers. I think this trade is a total waste for Colorado.

no offense, but i predict that you're way off on Gilbert. Salo will do the backup job nicely.

7 defensemen traded, 3 back, one a rental
And all worth it if Sakic is lifting the Cup in June.

Regardless, a GM going for it , whether one agrees with the deals or not. Personally, I do, as Lacroix knows what his team needs much more than any of us. And, as stated, the criteria for judging these deals is not the number of shiny prospects acquired or dealt, the age of the players, etc. The question isn't will Gilbert, Bahen, etc. ever become NHLers (let alone productive NHLers).

It's whether or not Colorado's current NHL roster is better today than prior to these moves, are they better prepared to win the Cup. Nothing else.

No offense taken. I've watched Gilbert and I think for a player of his size and age that his skating is excellent, his shot and vision of the ice are extreamly good. Last year on a horrible team he still made an impact as a freshman. That's why he's flown under the radar.

Do you see Salo playing more than one regular season game for the Avalanche? Roy played 9 years here in Colorado without getting hurt and his backups never played a minute of playoff hockey with the exception of Aebischer during the Wings game 7 blowout. So.... Salo is there if Aebischer falls on his face in the playoffs not really because of a rare injury to the starting goaltender. And Aebischer knows it.

Article on Gilbert:

Looks like a decent prospect to me...He's paired with Ryan Suter which would only help his development.
