I'm not sure why anyone is opposed to Silva vs GSP at any weight.

I just don't want to see GSP bulk up, sacrifice his cardio, and end up a little over his head in terms of power and size. The last thing I want to see is him looking the way Penn has looked against Hughes and GSP.

Well the rumor before was that it would be catch weight, so I don't think it would be that drastic.

He wouldn't sacrifice his cardio at all, if anything he would have more gas in the tank because he wouldn't completely drain his body to make weight. GSP is a monster, he probably walks around at ~195 lbs. I'd like to see them meet at 175 or 180, but I would still like to see the fight if GSP moved up to 185.

but if it's catch weight it can't be for at title right? I'm sure people would want to see them fight for a title...

Then again this comes from a camp who must give themselves titty-twisters prior to each fight. Hard to argue with anything at Jackson’s camp considering what GSP and fellow UFC title holder Rashad Evans have been able to do under his tutelage.
This part made me laugh. I'd like an explanation on that too.

Rashad Evans clarifies nipple twisting, Bill Gates T-shirt and "showboating"
Quote:
During this past Saturday's UFC 88 event at Atlanta's Philips Arena, as Bruce Buffer bellowed Evans' bio and name during pre-fight introductions, cameras caught Evans licking his fingers and then tweaking his nipples. The strange move has fueled more than a few forum postings -- especially since teammate and current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre did the same thing before his latest title defense over Jon Fitch.

"Georges St. Pierre was the first do it, and it's just sort of an inside joke," Evans said.

Evans said St. Pierre had heard it was supposed to bring good luck -- according to some ancient fighting myths, anyway. And if there's anything the New Mexico-based Team Jackson group knows, it's unity. Led by famed fight strategist and head trainer Greg Jackson, the team has created a sense of brotherhood among team members Evans, St. Pierre, Keith Jardine, Nate Marquardt, Joey Villasenor and others.

"Georges said it was supposed to good luck or something, so I said, 'Cool, alright,'" Evans said, laughing.

Formerly, bitter rival. Currently, just bitter. AH HAHAHAHA

They only go to catch-weight if one of the fighters can't make weight.

Anderson Silva always makes 185, and GSP obviously can make the 185 pound limit, so there's no reason why an Anderson-GSP match couldn't be a Middleweight Title match.

I'm just wondering what the hell they're trying to accomplish with this? Did they not watch the fight? What's BJ gonna say? "That one time I tried to block his fist/forearm/elbow with my face! But I couldn't because there was too much vasaline on his back!!"

Exactly GSP absolutely owned Penn and there are no excuses that are going to justify that demolison, he should just man up and take it...he got beat, and het got beat badly...

man I love GSP...

if you watch before the fight, GSP does that same "energy/centering" thing to himself.. like right around the entrance to the Octogon. he pushes below his clavicle and above his chest with two fingers of one hand, and the other hand slightly massages his spine between his shoulder blades..

i shall find it..

edit: not at spine, but at back of head.. it's in the cage when Bruce B is introducing him.. check it out.. i dont know how to make gifs..

In fairness, vaseline in that area would seriously interfere with your ability to establish a high guard (i.e. to set up a triangle or armbar), which BJ attempted a couple times to little effect. Now, I don't think there could have been much vaseline there since I don't think the corner guy would have had much left on his hands, so I figure GSP just managed to muscle out of it. But there were points of that fight where greasing could have affected the result, as one-sided as the fight was.

It was a stupid thing for his corner guys to do, I imagine they'll get reprimanded and possibly suspended, but I don't think the outcome of the fight is in any doubt.

Now that Stephens has stepped in to replace Hermes this weekend does anyone know who Efrain is going to fight at UFN 18? Is Jeremy gonna take a beating this weekend from Lauzon and then step in for another loss against Efrain?

As far as GSP/Anderson goes, I don't want to see that fight until a) GSP takes out Alves and b) Okami finally gets his shot at Anderson. I think ideally a GSP/Silva megafight would take place at the year end card. GSP is going to need quite a bit of extra prep time for that fight cuz he has stated he would want to put on the extra muscle the proper way and get up to the right weight for that fight. For that reason I could see him fighting Alves in Jun/Jul and then taking off until the year end card, that would most likely leave him with plenty of time.

That's the plan, kind of like when Koscheck stepped up against Alves but kept his fight with Yoshida.

Also I wouldn't count Stephens out in either of those fights, he's a really good young fighter and I might even have him slightly favoured over both guys. His standup is definitely better than either of theirs, and while his ground game isn't as good I think it's fairly close. The Lauzon fight should be a great one, like I said I'm kind of glad that Lauzon's not fighting Franca instead because I think Franca would have whupped him, while this fight should be very competitive.

Junkie had a great interview with Keith Kizer which more or less said:

-it was an exceptionally stupid thing for GSP's cornermen to do
-NSAC was all over however and wiped him down after both the second and third rounds.
-The Commission will look into it regardless of a formal complaint
-GSP's corner could be punished
-He doesn't see any cause to reverse the decision of the fight
