Gauthier suspended 5 games

I figured 2 or 3....being a repeat offender I'm not surprised.

woohooo lol the league should of doubled that, not because of the hit but because then we wouldn't have to see him in the lineup any sooner.

5 games seems like its about right. 2 or 3 games for the hit, 2 or 3 games for being a repeat offender.

I have to say though... since the game was in Montreal and nationally televised in Canada, I'm shocked it wasn't more! If you listened to the announcers from HNIC, you'd think he pulled a knife and shanked Gorges....

Montreal announcers are pretty bad...They showed it over and over...but after watching yesterdays game I have decided Boston's announcer are the WORST. Even worse than Bryan Hayward...well...almost.

The worst and potentially worse than Hayward are the Colorado guys. Horrible... I've watched a lot of their games for whatever reason (not when the Kings are playing) and they are embarrassing. The guy literally starts yelling sometimes when Colorado is putting on some pressure or if they almost score. It seems almost like a joke it is so excessive.

they're definitely up there in the biggest homers list, absolutely, almost unlistenable. but no one compares to the gheywords.

I said I expected 3-5 in the GDT, 5 is a good number I think.

I actually like the guy that did the Kings game the other night. Not sure what his name is but he usually does the Leafs games I think. He may be a homer but I like his voice and his delivery. Makes me feel like I'm in the 60's or 70's.

I'd agree...except that Matt Greene is day-to-day. Losing a bad defenseman is, unfortunately, more than offset by losing a good one.

I expected 3 games for the hit (didn't figure in the repeat offense), and 5 games for the blown call by the ref.

Hey, I was close...

just as a side note, for those who watched the game, there wasn’t a single mention of komisareks attempt to behead sully towards the end of the second. The replay shows an extended arm and elbow, a seemingly retaliatory attempted hit from the goats incident however Denis kept his arm in...not even a single mention in nhl on the fly where they lambasted Gauthier for his antics.

lol. apparently DL wasn't too fond of the suspension. i'm not sure how he can refute it as it seemed pretty obvious. admittedly though, i haven't watched it in slow motion, frame by frame but it seemed pretty obvious to me.

Here's general manager Dean Lombardi on the suspension:

Quote:
``We didn't believe he deserved a penalty, let alone a
suspension.
When you
stop the tape, his elbow is clearly down and at the point of contact,
his feet are on the ice. They both ended up halfway up the boards, so
it's not a charge.
I understand when you see it at full speed and the way they end
up on top of each other it looks more criminal than it is. When you
slowed it down, was his elbow down? Yes. Were his feet on the ice at
the point of impact? Yes.''

And if you stop the replay completeley just before the hit, he doesn't even touch him.

There is a rumor floating around that Ottawa, Washington, NYI and NJD all want this suspension overturned so Goats can play against them.

I said it earlier in this thread (and before Lombardi ever made his comments), but it bears repeating - that was a ******** penalty call and a bigger dubious ******** suspension. If that is a charging, then 3/4 of Brown's hits are charging and Brown should have been suspended for around 20 games so far this season. Even at full speed, I was wondering "what the **** kind of call was that?"

While Gauthier is the ultimate suck on defense and he is to me right there with Modry in the useless category, he didn't deserve the 5 nor did he deserve to lose pay and get suspended. That was a good hit.

I think I have looked at the replay about forty times ( hi-def in slomo) and I have to agree with Zad that the hit is not dirty, charging might be but G is not hitting with his elbow it is actually his lower arm making the contact ( part of arm between elbow and hand) and his hand is front of his chest with the elbow pointing away from the body.

Now... I am not an educated referee so I don't know what the rules says but I sure as hell have seen worse without as much as an eyebrow twitch from refs side.

So five game susp...sounds like the NHL-maffias doing.

very good clip with excellent resolution
