Tampa signs Mike McKenna to an NHL deal..

According to Bolts Prospects, the Lightning have signed Mike McKenna to an NHL deal and he will be with the team tomorrow in New York. Also, Mike Smith will not make the trip to NYC. Ramo has been recalled as well, with Riku getting sent back to Norfolk. McKenna or Ramo will make the start tomorrow night.

McKenna is a solid goalie and I was surprised no NHL team picked him up over the offseason. He has a good GAA in the A this season. Maybe because it's the Isles, he can have a solid NHL debut.

I know some people are saying Eeek to McKenna, but i'm excited. This year hasn't exactly been gold and diamonds obviously, and this guy has played his ****ing balls off, i'm excited to see the guy get a shot.

Good for you Mike.

Smith *mightve possibly* done damage to his hand throwing a temper tantrum after the last game. EDIT: Hafta wonder though if they think he'll be back as early as Wednesday?

Congrats to Mike, out of personal interest I hope he does well, and if nothing else it sounds like he will be here while Ramo plays in Norfolk to hopefully get Ramo back some of his missing positioning and confidence. Norfolk doesnt want Ramo back and is sad to see Mike go haha

I thought Ramo was suspended? Is it over already?

Smitty is an idiot if he got hurt during a temper tantrum, he needs to control his emotions a little better.

Yes, while you shouldn't injure yourself because you're upset, I love the competitive fire the guy has and i'm okay with him being emotional if that is what drives him to be a stellar goaltender.

I'm not so sure it was the exit from the Philly game though, he has just seemed a bit off the last two or three games. Something nagging.

I broke a baseball bat during a highschool wooden bat tournament. I impressed myself that day.

I can't bash someone for banging something when he is frustrated.

I broke a brand new 150 dollar composite easton which was huge for me in highschool because I made jack this, and I did it because I gave up a shortie because I didn't look back to see if my help was at the blueline.

That day sucked.

I think the amount of games he played consecutively should have been stopped at 10 or 12 at the most...he was on what, 17, 18 straight starts?

Totally agree, Smitty is not Patty Roy or Hasek in his prime endurance wise. As much as I like Tocchet, this was a bad idea. However, I can't remember who Mike McKenna is, I'm watching George Lopez and have no idea what's going on.

Well hope our Mike S. gets rested for whatever ails him, and Mike M. can get the job done, if he gets his chance to start.

I assume the team got Cory Muprhys go ahead on this deal, so he should be solid.

The NHL doesn't technically have to honor AHL suspensions, but they do generally honor them. Lawton wants to get the AHL's approval for Ramo to be up, but the AHL doesn't have a whole lot of recourse if they don't agree.

Kind of off topic, but if Smith wants out of Tampa because of the horrible non existent defence(other than Murphy) we're in trouble. It seems like he enjoys the team kind of though...

McKenna is wearing #30 according to the NHL.com playing roster.

McKenna

Good for Mike, he was a great goalie and he's funally getting the shot in the NHL he deserves. Its been a great last few weeks for my ex-teamates at SLU.
