No brainer IMO.
Lol, leave it to good 'ole Rayne to come into a thread involving a Flames player and start bashing him .

Were you not implying that Phaneuf's defensive play wasn't being done justice by his stats? In all the Bouw vs Phaneuf arguments I've seen, Phaneuf's offense is always heralded. Is that just compared to Bouw (thus still possibly being better than Green), or am I missing something here?

For as much crap Green gets for being bad in his own zone, this year Dion is probably the worst d in his own zone that plays 20+ minutes and its not even close really.

Is he still leading the league in being on the ice for even strength goals against?

I have Kipper in my fantasy league and it seems every game Dion does something stupid that gets me punching the wall.

---

In Green's last 106 NHL games (including playoffs) he has: 33g-63a, 96 points, +34, 45ppp

Phaneuf > Green. I don't care what the stats say this year. Phaneuf is bigger, stronger, more physical, has a harder shot.
if his shot is stronger(which i assume you mean better, if not why would you mention it?) why does he have 70 more shots and 10 less goals?

Ovechkin is better than Crosby. Green is better than Phaneuf. Easy pick for me.

your talking about rebuilding a franchie right? Starting from scratch?

Then its Crosby + Phaneuf. I am aware of Green's insane numbers, but I honestly rather have him then Green. Mike Green on the Vancouver Canucks will not be the same MIke Green on the Washington Capitals. Take that away, who would I rather have on my Crappy Canucks Green, or Phaneuf it be Phaneuf easily.

Crosby + Phaneuf.

haven't watched a single flames game this year, normally watch a lot. So I voted before reading how bad Phaneuf has been. But I'd take him by a hair over green. I more picked Crosby over ovechkin because, while they're fairly equal, I'd rather start with a playmaker who can score than a scorer who can playmake.

True, J-Bouw is much more competent defensively and he and Phaneuf were being at a time when Phaneuf hadn't yet started adjusting. Now that Phaneuf has, he's making mistakes but he's getting better and that's exactly what the Flames want. The results won't be immediate, but it's what's best for Phaneuf (and the Flames) long term.

Phaneuf is one of the most over rated players in the game. He cares more about hitting people then actually playing defense.

This just goes to show that you haven't watched him at all this year. Earlier in his career sure but now not even remotely close.

Ovy and Green for me.

I'm a Crosby fan but I do recognize that Ovy is a bit better. Green is just fantastic.

Right, but that brings me back to your previous post. You said the stats don't do a defenseman justice, which implies you were defending his defensive play. If you were talking about Phaneuf's intangibles in offensive production then that makes sense, because Green's stats are better but you prefer those intangibles that Phaneuf provides. But the way you worded it makes it seem that you were saying that even though Green's offensive stats are better, Phaneuf's defensive play is better and that stats can't reflect that.

I've just never heard anybody claim that Phaneuf is better defensively. So if Green's better on offense (again, unless you're referring to Phaneuf's intangibles that go beyond stats) and on defense, why argue that Phaneuf's better?

Crosby is just a bit better than Ovechkin, but Green seems to be more than a little better than Phaneuf.

I'd have to go with Ovechkin and Green, only because right now I believe Green to be noticeably better than Phaneuf.

I didn't mean that.

But when Phaneuf doesn't drill it into the logo, his shot is one of the best there is.
