Now that Ottawa is really going into the tanking mode, do you think we could make some kind of a deal with them ?
I would like to see this one
Vermette & Volchenkov
FOR
Plekanec, O'byrne, AND Chipchura (or another youngster or a pick) OR Halak
Vermette and Pleks are the same age and have about the same career stats. Vermette always dreamed to play for the Habs. He is super fast, good defensively and good at face-offs.
Volchenkov plays RD and is very physical, blocks lots of shots too.
I can see why Ottawa might want to trade Pleks for Vermette, as they are somewhat similar but Pleky has had more offensive success, and Vermette is underperforming his contract. (Montreal might not be so hot on that, though).
Why they'd want to deal Volchenkov, the closest thing they have to Mike Komisarek and IIRC signed to a very decent deal... I have no idea. Besides, doesn't Montreal need more of an offensive producer on D?

The way I see this, is Plekanec vs Volchenkov, then Vermette vs O'Byrne & Chipchura...
IMO Plekanec is better offensively, has more skill than Vermette, but I don't know if Vermette is perimeter... a bit of a downgrade, but media would go crazy
The best player in the deal is Volchenkov, and I just imagine our Top 4 with him... wow
So, we trade Plekanec, who's underachieving this year, and O'Byrne, young, cheap, huge but rookie mistakes and probably not a huge ceiling, and Chipchura, who could become something decent, if he ever get the speed of the game (that would suck though, cause I actually like him...) for Vermette, who never really reached his potential but is still decent offensively and good defensively and super fast, and Volchenkov... injury prone, but with the kind of game he plays, it's normal...

1- Check their stats. Pleks has about 8 points more in the same number of seasons. Pleks is weak on face-offs. Not Vermette.
2- Habs needs any kind of help on D- Have you seen the last half-dozen games ?

I'm sure Montreal would love to make this trade but I doubt Ottawa would be eager to move Volchenkov.
You want Volchenkov, it will cost Subban and a 1st to get him.
He's signed at a decent price through next year and same with Vermette.
Vermette makes 2,762,500 UFA in 2010 / 2011
Volchenkov makes 2, 500,00 UFA in 2010 / 2011
Neil makes 1.1 million this year and is a UFA next year.
How about something like:
Plekanec Chipchura Subban 1st for Vermette Neil and Volchenkov.
Forget about Heatley, he'd cost more then Lecavalier he's only signed until 2013 / 2014 at 7.5 million. Ottawa won't be trading Heatley unless Montreal seriously overpays!
Gross! No Spezza or Heatley for Montreal. Come on, if you think trading 3-4 assets for one of these guys is worth it, look at how Ottawa's doing with these guys and no depth.
i absolutely love A-train. he is a true warrior. plays with injuries, blocks shots, dishes punishment and has a great work ethic and plays with passion.
dont think Ottawa is wililng to trade him.
as for Vermette, not sure hes a upgrade from Plex. Antoine is a great guy with a terrific attitude thou. IMO he and Tomas are very similar players.

And this year, they are having sub par seasons. But Vermette is more skilled at faceoffs, and is not afraid to cut to the net.

This is the kind of thinking that makes someone look at Koivu's and Lecavalier's career stats and say "these guys are comparable".
Pleks's best season is 29-40-69. Vermette's is 24-29-53. That's a rather sizable difference.

Not arguing that, but I would rather see a two-way puck-mover. The guy will play with Hamrlik, he just needs to be good enough that Hamrlik doesn't have to compromise his own D covering for him. The Habs need a guy who can pass the puck out without turning it over more than another banger -- and they still need that power play point guy. I'd eye Filip Kuba, who's more likely to be available in the first place.
volchenkov isnt the kind of d man that is needed it is pointless to make this trade, heatley wont be traded he is one of a very few offensive assets ottawa has right now their are others that have potential but arent playing up to par likr fischer, vermette and even alfredsson
Yes, we do. Anyone that would say no to having him has a serious problem. The Habs need someone that can bury the puck. He`s 28 and scored 50 twice, 40+ four times.

Please tell me why we'd want to trade for Vermette? He's not doing squat, vastly overrated because Ottawa has no 2nd line. I prefer Lapierre to him anyways, at least Plekanec has offensive upside.

Not to troll or anything but Vermette is an excellent defensive forward and one of the league's top face-off guys. He and Plekanec are having similar offensive seasons as well and you know what Vermette will be making next season. Not sure what Plekanec's demands will be.
