It's kind of like the penalty that killed us in game 7. We'd committed several borderline trips already, and the next one was going to get called, and we were warned, it that particular one may have been weak, but hey, we had it coming by that point.
while I do think a lucky call going our way (is that the first in forever?) the Caps should have won the game and did.
Jose was playing well tonight and really helped out. I thought Erskine came back to earth a bit tonight.
Not the best offensive game up front after the first period and I think most of that is due to a bit of Bruce's over jumbling of the lines. They weren't in sync for the whole second period because he was shifting them all over the place instead of just doing the smart thing and double shifting Semin, Ovechkin and Flash occasionally. He screwed it up a bit, and the Devils were able to get momentum back on a broken play on the PP. Ovechkin misses the dump in from the point and breakaway the other way. I can live with that if you score two on the PP.
I understand Clemmensen was bad, but I'm not sure what he could have done on the Green goal, the Laich goal and probably the first Nylander goal. The defense failed him on those, but whatever.
After all, the Refs just gave the Caps the game, and the Devs probably can't wait to see us in the playoffs.
I think the Devils are a hot team right now that is on a roll (with Parise playing ridiculous) that has gotten by so far with mediocre goaltending and so so defense. Marty coming back will cure a lot of what ails them, but if the scoring dries up, they're going to have to go back and play the trap and hope for 2-1 wins. While I think that the Caps have had difficulty playing against teams that park the bus out in front of the net, push comes to shove, I would favor the Caps in a series because of their talent. The team is deep and has 3 lines that should be able to score. Even with Shanny, the Devils can't match the offensive output.
Also I have to say it was enjoyable to see the NJ play non-trap hockey (and I can see why they have played well this season)...maybe I'm still scarred from the 90's...no offense to NJ fans...trap hockey is the worst.
Illusions Michael! no idea how he scored two tonight, but i'll take them.
Fehrsie looks hella good right now, i just love the fact he can be plugged in anywhere in the line up and can play his game effectively. his fore check tonight was pretty much flawless. man crush points for him.
