Not nearly enough for Heatley.

Grebs and the 1st are the only things that have any value from Edmonton.

I know Ottawa needs to shake up their roster, but I don't think trading Heater is a very smart move.

That's a whole lot of nothing for Heatley.

Bryan Murray and Eugene Melnyk would both be run out of town on a rail if either of those trades happened.

I'd do this (1st plus Nilsson option). Kind of fits the needs of both team. Very good counter offer to a bad proposal.

Penner, Nilsson and Schremp are garbage, MacGenius has told the world this many times by now.

yea right! Edmonton gets fleeced IMO. Gilbert is probably one of the most underrated defenceman in the league on a great contract, Gagner, i just have a man crush on and Eberle is going to be a downgrade version of Heatley. I dont think EDM does this at all

Heatley is signed until 2012/13. Yes it would hurt to lose Gagner and Gilbert (no way Edmonton would package Eberle into the mix...it would be Nilsson plus 1st) but that's the price of a legit sniper to play with Hemsky. The other option would be to chase Hossa this off season (would eliminate our ability to resign Cogliano and Gagner anyways). Trade part of the future for a sniper, or chase the big UFA's (like every other team) and lose the future to RFA offers? Tough choice.

Also, throw in Schremp. You know you wanna...

As reasonable as this trade proposal is, I still think I want to keep Heatley. Even though the value might be there, I would probably still need more to convince me to move Heater, which might be unreasonable, but it's true.

To Edmonton

Dany Heatley
Chris Kelly

To Ottawa

Andrew Cogliano (young player with potentiel)
Jordan Eberle/Robbie Schremp & Robert Nilsson (clearly Eberle is preffered followed by Nilsson then Schremp. Yound (prospects) with tons of talent and potentiel.
1st round draft pick
Erik Cole/Dustin Penner (cap reasons)

Shouldn't the question really be, why Heatley to Edmonton? He doesn't solve their need for a true #1 center at all, and that's a lot of future to mortgage for a guy who I don't think puts them into a contending position at all, with how the roster is now. Seems like a pointless waste of resources, really.

Conditional 1st (Heatley 50+ Goals in 1 of next 3 seasons)

So assuming Heater gets 50 goals it ends up

Heatley for Penner, Cogliano, Chorney a 1st and a 2nd.

As a sens 1a. fan i say **** yes i do that in a heartbeat
As an oilers 1a. fan i say meh i guess if it would help get in to the playoffs this year.

Edmonton needs a top line LW, Penner is alright but is more of a second line player then first. We also need a sniper and Heatley fits the bill perfectly.

It makes sense because Hemsky is a playmaker/dangler. Same as Spezza which would put two playmakers together which isnt really smart. Then Horcoff goes to the second line and Gagner to the third where he clearly doesnt belong. Heatley makes it so that they have a playmaker and scorer and a player who does a bit of everything (horcoff) which is the perfect first line.

Also, if we were trading for Spezza, no question that Horcoff would be going the other way.

Lol If I wasn't a senators fan i would probably be flaming you. IMO the oilers get hosed. But then again him on the first line would be good for the oilers. I just don't think that he is worth so much young talent.

Hate to burst the Cogliano-lovers bubbles, but we aren't trading Gagner. He is the by-product of losing 21/22 and dealing Ryan Smyth.

Way way overpayment.
