Waived, now Traded: Jussi Jokinen to Carolina

UPDATE: Jussi Jokinen is believed to have been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Wade Brookbank, Josef Melichar, and a 4th round draft pick.

Wade Brookbank played for the Orlando Solar Bears in 2001, winning the Turner Cup the cup with them. He was one of the final players under contract with Orlando.

------

TSN.ca has reported that the Jussinator has been placed on waivers again.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=11009

EE says that another club has expressed interest, but if he goes unclaimed he'll be assigned to Norfolk.

He's on waivers because another team has expressed some interest in getting him, although if nothing does go down, he will be in Norfolk.

Jussi gets the cut to make space for Gary Flipping Roberts? Lame.

If we really had to, couldn't we have traded him for Curtis Sanford or somebody? I know it's a bit recent with yesterday's signing of MC Kenna, but he's still a known quantity.

I don't mind if someone snaps him up really, to think we would get picks for him is just hoping on too much. He has not shown much and is a player we can afford to drop really.

I liked Juicy but he did not fit the mold of a Tocchet kinda player. He was more a finesse type winger (without all the scoring! doh!)

My thoughts (and hopes) is that Roberts plays really well, or atleast well enough someone might be interested in his veteran presence to make a run at the cup and maybe we get a pick for him. I think that is Recchi's destiny as well.

So we loose the 1.875 mil off the books or half of it and hopefully loose Roberts as well.

My only concern is we cannot have 12 of the same muck it up grind it out forwards. We need a nice mix of grinders and shooters etc.

And to think where my expectations were at the beginning of the season? For a second there I thought we had a nice line up of forwards......

Since we're going to probably be without Recchi and Roberts next year, why should we cut one of our only other natural wingers? IDK, just hoping he gets to Norfolk safely...

The difference of no winger and Jussi Jokinen, is quite small?

He is an rfa and with the way he has played he shouldn't get a qualifying offer. I will be shocked if he is even playing in North America next year.

i've given up on him. im going to be honest and say that when he first was on waivers i was very upset. but no i'm indifferent. after seeing guys who deserve a spot more than him, i wouldn't mind seeing him go.

Hope nobody claims him, I don't get why if theres a team interested in him you dn't do a trade and get SOMETHING in return. A 7th round pick even, as long as we come out with something.

Well, I was really hoping the last waiver shuffle would put some spark into him after he got back, but...

I watched a LOT of Stars games in the couple years prior to the trade (ex-BF from Texas and a big Stars fan) and based on that, thought Jussi would be a real contributor on the Bolts. I was more enthusiastic about getting him than Smitty, in fact. Shows what I know.

But still, I have this sneaking feeling that if another team picks him up, he'll snap out of it and do well for them. Oh well, I guess it still doesn't matter in that case. He's not helping us ATM, so what's the diff?

Overrated shootout skills thanks to a hot streak 3 years ago.

All for just under 2 million.

I understand why people might be upset, he was supposed to be a big part of the Richards trade (though Smith and Halpern are more than enough for me) but can anyone really say they would play Jokinen over Hall, Pettinger, Downie, R2, etc? All of those players provide something. Hall and Pettinger are good 4th liners who will play defense, stick up for teammates, chip in a goal here and there while a player like Downie is scoring and is playing very well with Stamkos. There is nothing that Jokinen really provides. He doesn't do defense, he hasn't scored since Melrose was coach, he doesn't hit, his shootout skills are nothing special. Unless he starts scoring there are thousands of players who don't score, fight, play defense, etc in Europe and the minors. With Jokinen a RFA next year can a team short on capspace really justify offering him a raise to keep his rights when he is so easily replaceable?

I tend to think that if he replaced Prospal on the MV line he may produce just as much as Prospal. I think that is more of my feelings about Prospal than anything.

no defensive ability? I beg to differ, that was the only reason he was on the team for a while...

I haven't seen it. The effort was there but the skill wasn't in my opinion.

Then again when you pass through waivers twice unclaimed...something is up.
