Crazy Thought, Ottawa-Pittsburgh

This is just something that I have thought up:

To Pittsburgh;
Dany Heatley
Chris Neil
Christoph Schubert

To Ottawa:
Ryan Whitney
Miroslav Satan (salary cap reasons)
Jordan Staal
1st round pick

Just a deal that I have been thinking about for awhile, I know Ottawa needs a puck moving Blueliner and we seem to need a pure sniper and some grit.

Actually, its not that ridiculous. Take out the picks though, and add a 1st from Pittsburgh to even the value a bit more. Whitney would have a lot of value for Ottawa, and they need a good 2nd line centreman.

This deal works out perfectly for the sens. they get one of the best LWs in the league and give up their 3rd line centre (who is good) and a dman that is good but expendible, plus they add neil and improve on their picks?

If were trading Heatley + more it better involve somebody by the name of Evgeni Malkin...

As always it depends on what you think of Staal. I don't really see any reason for the Sens to deal Heatley though. On a year to year basis I would argue he's probably a top 5 forward in the league. So underrated.

Pens-Sens trade proposals seem to be the flavor of the week on trade board.

This one kills the Sens.

heatley fell off his game in the last two years
he had more than 100 points in his first two years in ottawa
he had 82 points last year and is on pase for 74 points this year

if i was ottawa i would do this trade

stall and whitney+ first
soo f***ing worth it

Not to pile on here but I would also say that Fisher is a fully realized version of Staal which is another reason the Sens don't do this.

I was thinking the crazy idea was to trade Heatley for 1 of Crosby or Malkin. Imagine what they could do with a proper sniper. But then I read and it's not a crazy idea, but a ridiculous one.

Really? I see Staal having way more scoring upside, but I agree that opinion on Staal is what this trade hinges around.

You could argue that, I just happen to be on the "Staal is a bust" side of the argument since last year. I think if you watch him play regularly it's pretty hard to argue he has a good skill set. Mediocre skater, mediocre shot, no vision or passing skills whatsoever. If the Pens keep him IMO their only hope is that it's all a confidence issue and he grows out of it. It's possible but I'm sticking to my guns.

It's actually a great deal for the sens.

They lose Heatley but gain Staal + Whitney

I hate the sens, but this move would help them out (long-term)

You realise Heatley suffered a separated shoulder last year, right? That the Sens were battling with the Red Wings for the President's Trophy until that point, and fell apart afterwards? That Heatley came back from his injury weeks before he was expected to?

Maybe, just maybe, do you think that had an effect on his drop in point production? 82 points in 71 games is a 1.15 PPG production.

He's having a bad year this year, so is the entire team. It sucks but it happens. Imagine if the Flames had traded Iginla 3 years ago when he had his 67 point season.

In order for your post to be credible you need to spell names right (other teams get a tad upset) It's Staal not Stall -- A horse poops in a Stall, The Staal brothers play hockey.

Second, I agree with some of your post. I think this makes Ottawa's team better. One could even argue that it should be Spezza in the deal and not Heatley.

Oh ya from my biased perpective I would love to rid the Sens of Heatley.
But how does it help them long term?

I really don't see how anyone can think this is a good deal for Ottawa.

Heatley alone should get you Whitney, Staal and a 2nd round pick. And suggesting Heatley is falling off his game??! Really...come on...had he played all 82 games last year he would have likely hit his 50 goals again. Consistent 50 goal scorers don't just drop out of the sky - the only others I can think of that are fairly consistent are Ovechkin and Iginla.

This deal is bias, and blows for Ottawa.

Value-wise, this proposal doesn't work for Ottawa. Whitney is a good player, but overrated by many. I like Staal, but the word is still out on whether he's a 2nd-line centre or not.

Cap-wise, the Pens wouldn't do this. Acquiring Heatley would mean that they would have $24.9M of cap space locked up into three players. That could be almost half the cap next year, if the cap goes down.

No reason for Ottawa to trade Heatley. None at all.

Heatley is an amazing player. With his age, there is no reason to dump him to start rebuilding, especially with Alfie getting older.
