I'm in a keeper league and we're allowed to carry 2 rookies over to next year. I'm thinking about picking up Markstrom off waivers with the anticipation he'll be playing more next season.
I have a few questions, what is the likelihood of Florida resigning Theodore? If they do sign him, who do you anticipate being the starter and backup?
All signs point to Markstrom being our starter for the rest of this year and the foreseeable future.
Offseason, Weiss + Versteeg/Fleishmann + 2nd for Boyle
Hey folks. I like to watch the Panthers whenever I get a chance, really want the club to succeed and get back to winning ways. Anyway, was thinking about this proposal, do you feel it is decent value-wise? Feel free to add picks as you see necessary. My only concern is that this kind of guts an already depleted offense for you guys. Sharks obviously need a heart and soul guy like Weiss along with secondary scoring. I hope this isn't too drastic either way.
Dan Boyle
For
Stephen Weiss
Kris Versteeg or Tomas Fleishmann
2013 2nd Round pick
I'd make this trade without the pick, especially if it's Versteeg you want. If anything though, San Jose would be adding a pick to the deal, not the Panthers.
Versteeg has more trade value than Boyle even though Boyle is a better player.

Would prefer Versteeg
Haha, all this for a 36 year old?
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, but this is a tad bit too much. I like Doyle, but both Fleischmann and Versteeg are relatively young. AND a second round pick? No thanks

Why not we just toss in Gudbranson, Huberdeau, Markstrom, and Bjugstad while we're at it.
if we end up with the 1st pick, im assuming we'll pick mackinnon, so weiss has no value to us since hes pretty much gone anyways. so its pretty much versteeg or flash and the 2nd for boyle. unfortunately at boyles age it just wouldnt make sense for us. he's an amazing player, but if your looking to get real value for him, we wouldnt be the team to be looking at, just doesnt work or make sense for us.

Weiss has no trade value with an expiring contract and season-ending injury. So it actually makes more sense to try to resign him as he's a good player. And if we get MacKinnon it doesn't make sense to get rid of a center.
Defense could get better through subtraction as much as anything...need to rid ourselves of Jovo and Kuba. Then look for a solid if not splashy guy in free agency and/or move up one of the kids from San Antonio.
Not sure of their contract status, but for the same reason it makes sense to resign Weiss it would make sense to keep Flash and Versteeg. More offensive options the better. Defense sucks this year but could be the easiest thing to fix. The offense has sucked for ages and with incoming high-end blood all these second liners we use on the top line suddenly become a lot more valuable to us.

Oh man, so sorry. Definitely did not want it to come off that way! I was looking at it from the perspective of the Panthers getting a top 10 defenseman for a potential UFA in Weiss plus some secondary scoring. Boyle is still very serviceable, he logs the most minutes of all Sharks on average, per game. The pick situation is a fair point.
Again, as I said, I had a feeling this would gut your team and thus probably isn't very realistic... Just wanted to see how it matched up value wise
If we knew Weiss wasn't signing here and you wanted his rights, that's a different story. Plus, you'd absorb Versteeg's hit. But... there's no way it's going to be Fleischmann.
I think the huge dealbreaker though is the 2nd. The fact that he's in his late 30s is enough to say, at the very least, that we're not giving you anything further.
Understand that George McPhee or Caps reps were at the Cats/Devils game last night along with many other NHL folks.
It was first joked about on the Capitals board that GMGM might be interested in reacquiring Flash. I never was a big fan of Flash when he was with the Caps, primarily due to him not be physical. However, the Caps are in need of a LW. Marcus Johansson is currently being used as the Caps first line LW, however he's a center.
So I'd propose Marcus Johansson straight up for Tomas Fleischmann. MAJO obviously a few years younger than Flash and he's a pending RFA. MAJO helps with the rebuilding of the Panthers, especially if you lose Weiss at center.
