No thanks, its not a terrible proposal, but I'd rather have MacKinnon or Jones than that.

Yotes fan back. Since Florida is presumably getting Mackinnon with the #2, what exactly is Florida's future down the middle? Could one of Bjugstad, Shore, or Matthias be had, and what would Florida want in return?

The listings are inaccurate. Huberdeau plays wing, so does Grimaldi and Rau. We are not as deep at center as people might think. Not looking shed centers.

Edm-Fla..assuming Mack is taken at 1

Kulikov + 2nd overall for Yakupov + 7th overall... A Huby/Yak line and get either Monahan or Nurse with the #7?

Why should we bail out Edmonton? Sooner or later they will have to trade some forwards for D. Yak is nice but between him and Jones, I'd rather have Jones. Yak can score don't get me wrong but his size is not the type of player Tallon goes for and we also still would be in need of a center. If a trade were to happen I would rather have RNH but he is really too simular to Huberdeau so that is out of the question as well.

IMO, if Mac is gone as much as I hate taking another Dman this high you go with Jones. At worst drop to 3rd and get Drouin but we must come away with one of those top three.

Nope I wouldn't do it. Use the pick on Jones and think about trading Kulikov. Heck if Edmonton wants to trade Yakupov in a deal involving Kulikov, that may work depending on balancing out the trade.

I hear ya guys but dont you think this franchise needs some excitement brought to the fan base. Its a tough sell to the casual fan drafting a D-Man. We need to do all we can do to bring in a top of the line playmaker/scorer to excite the fan base. And Mack likely wont be the answer as many have said hes the new #1, but i guess you never know.

i'd do that trade if mac is taken #1. i love yakupov and he was the #1 pick last year, he's gonna become an amazing goal scorer and playing with huberdeau and potentially weiss, that would make a nice top line. we would have a shot at drafting monahan at 7, or a top D like nurse, ristolainen, or pulock.

except jones would solidify our D for years to come, along with the possibility to trade one of our young d-men for a center/winger

Martin Havlat

Tallon has always had a serious man crush on Havlat, who at 32 years of age, has 2 years left on his contract with a cap hit of $5,000,000. Havlat has trouble staying healthy and may have worn out his welcome in San Jose. I seem to recall that Martin can also play center.

Assuming that Weiss is gone, does it make sense for the Cats to explore a trade with the Sharks for Havlat?

Since the Sharks appear to need D and can use some cap flexibility, I am thinking Kuba+.

I wouldn't mind Marty as an option.

I'd also like to see if Philly/NYR will buyout Danny Briere/Brad Richards. If we draft MacKinnon, a "Quebec line" of Hubs-MacK-Briere would be an interesting display of skill. I think Rangers will hold onto Richards until they see how he does under their new head coach.

Yeah its like I suggested on the trade boards, if they're gonna buy him out just send them upshall. That would give them a cheaper buyout and we would get a talented player in return

Havlat is a very injury prone 0.5 PPG player making 5 million. Pass.

And Sharks have no interest in Kuba, their blueline is crowded as it is already without him and Burns playing forward.

edit: And in what parallel universe has Havlat played center lmao.

By way of quick reply. Havlat is injury prone, which is why SJ apparently has an interest in dumping him. Hannan is a UFA so there is an opening on the Shark's blue line. This is pretty much a mutual salary dump with us, after ridding ourselves of Kuba's remaining $4 million, end up paying $3 million a season for Havlat.

Finally, I did not write that Havlat "has" played center, but rather indicated that I recalled that he "can" play center.

I think Ribeiro + Huberdeau would make part of a sweet line. But, that will never happen since Ribeiro lacks the credentials of a DT player.

If Horton didnt leave on the terms in which he did, I wouldnt mind Tallon going after him this summer. I would like to see him on a line with Huberdeau and MacKinnon (if drafted).

As far as the original question, which I understand the reasoning, then no I wouldnt.

Havlat has always played wing, even before he came over to NA I think. So..

And IMO if Sharks are getting rid of Havlat, it's either buy out or a trade for virtually nothing. They aren't trading crap just to take on more crap, even if that said crap was at less years and money.
