any islanders fans know anything about weight's bonuses? That info would be very helpful in considering this.

If Phoenix can't take much salary back, maybe they send a salary dump long with Ross?Someone who's close to becoming a ufa.

There's been very little info about Weight's bonus.
Botta wrote about trading Weight (at the bottom of the blog).

http://www.islanderspointblank.com/
Trade Hurdles: None. Weight is on a one-year deal with incentives. Any bonus issues can be worked out between the Islanders and their trade partner on the NHL hockey ops conference call when the deal is consummated.

I think Witt for Ross and a salary dump or an okay prospect.

So it should be a high pick instead of a mid pick?

I was hoping you didn't watch games from the West. Maybe Shero doesn't.

While I don't know that much about Ross I doubt his value is equal to a mid first rounder in this year's draft, as the first post says. I also don't think Islanders have followed Ross' development that close since he was drafted which is why I think draftpick(-s) usually are packaged together with a prospect when you trade for a proven NHL-veteran. I think the GM that sells in those kinds of trades is looking spread out their chances and options as much as possible (which is why I generally think a mid first rounder has more value). It could be details like getting the option to swap a draftpick or so in this or next years draft depending on how things develops. Again, I like the idea and would probably jump on it if my name was Snow. Then again, I believe Weight has said that he would prefer to stay. I do realize that the decision isn't his, but Weight has been traded a couple of times before during a season with mixed results.

have to admit both of these proposals are good proposals

I sure would hate to see Lisin go though
but we would get a great return from him

Soon to be Eklunds next e5. The only thing is that it is a very good proposal. Shero Picks up Phone and orders his flight to John Hancock it as fast as he can.

As an Islander fan, I'd pass.

It is fair value, certainly. But, the Isles don't need another smallish (by NHL standards) dman prospect to go along with Katich, Ness, et al.

Personally, I'd rather see the Isles resign Weight to serve as a mentor to Bailey. Failing that, I think they should try to get a package including a 2nd rounder and an OK prospect.

The Pens are so close to the cap I don't think they could take Hale.

We can swing it, and we'd want to deal an excess defender for a pick or prospect anyway (Gill, Boucher or Eaton), so it should be possible.

Its a good proposal, but I think Goligoski's value is even with Lisin's considering what the two have shown, so I agree the salary dump is going to cost Phoenix a pick if they want to include it.
....Or a prospect like Jonas Ahnelöv who I'd like to take a flyer on, as we don't really have any defensive defenseman prospects ready and signed. Perhaps the low pick needs to be added from our side instead then.

Personally, this is exactly what I would be seeking in terms of Weight. A former first rounder who is already along in his course of development; and a two-way defender no less (NYI need these). At 6'1 200lbs (according to yahoo) he has better size then some of NYI's well documented smurfs. Hoping Snow can come across these kinds of proposals in the next month.
