O'Brien from Vancouver. A number 4-5 type who plays solid defensive hockey. Can log 18-20 minutes a night. Is fully willing to drop the gloves and defend teammates. A little undisciplined at times but i'd rather that then passive play. On the outs with the Canucks. Still only 25.

The dream like trades would obviously be for Vinny and JBo. That out of the way, what could address our needs? What can we gain without taking to much out?
You boost your Depth(Bob did just that)and you identify your core of player(Price,Koivu,Komi,Markov) Be in good position on the cap and they are.The Habs are in a position of strength and this regardless of injuries. What more would they need in order to make something good happen in a trade?

How about Chris Higgins and Ryan O'Byrne for Steve Bernier and Mattias Ohlund?

Vancouver has depth on D and they are wanting a top 6 forward to play with the Sedins or with Sundin and Demitra.

We would have a top 4 Dman in Ohlund for a run and he is a UFA so we don't have to be stuck with a salary and Steve is younger than Higgins is a purer goal scorer.

Again, no. From Article 10.3(b),
The Prior Club may not Trade that Restricted Free Agent for a period of one year from the date it exercises its Right of First Refusal.

Cool Chomsky, I totally forgot...thought it only pertained to trading him to the Blues.

I really liked that deal though.

How about UFA for UFA...Ohlund for Kovalev?

I'd be happy if we got Cole assuming we don't overpay of course.

Ditto with Chris Neil

Proposal with Ottawa

Hi guys,

Just wondering what you guys think of getting 2 rentals from Ottawa at the deadline and what it would take to get them out of there.

Here is my proposal:
To Montreal: Neil and Kuba
To Ottawa: Fisher and a 3rd (or 2nd)

It might not be enough but I'm think Ottawa is going to want to rebuild their D and it's a step in the right direction for them. Flame away.

What's with everyone wanting Chris Neil lately? Did I miss something?

You can say what you want about Chriss Neil but he is a tuff Mofo and I think we need some tuffness for playoffs.

Imagine a line of Begin Neil and Laraque. Would be pretty fun to see against a team like Philly or Boston.

As interesting as that might be, in the end I think they would want more and I would not want to give up more.

The only guy i want is Kuba. Hes exactly what we need; big, strong, can be physical, big left shot from the point, can play on the right side, good with the puck. Neil is not necessary, we have plenty of forwards but if we could upgrade our D with Kuba, i say this team can go somewhere this year.

We do need a center and a fourth defencemen, it seems they fill the hole for a cap hit of 4.1M$. None of those two are getting me excited though.

It's great that we don't give a player in that trade but that we trade back Fisher to them before acquring him.....Sens will never say that coming...

Seriously, makes no sense for the Sens. Fischer is still not proven, pick is fine but Neil and Kuba are worth way way more, especially Kuba. Try a proven prospect first, not an unproven one.

H at center? Are you nuts? Well, maybe he can skate between peoples legs and score goals a plenty that way.

Do we really want Chezzy, though? I've heard he loses his patience with rookies easily...

I think actually a good target might be Doug Weight.

Why?
(1) Can be the 4th Centre
(2) Will be available - heck, who on NYI won't be?
(3) I think he is UFA after this season (can someone confirm?)
(4) Won't cost much in assets to acquire
(5) He plays the point on the PP
(6) Still would be able to go get an extra d-man
