Very true.

Three depth forwards for a ready-to-go defenseman.

That bang you just heard was a Coyotes fan killing himself.

Don't worry. Prucha will be potting 25+ next year and Dawes is a sniper. Kalinin showed that he played better under Torts. Renney wasn't helping his game much.

Pretty much got every Ranger fan ingredient for a trade in that deal...did Sather consult Vitto on that one?

Morris was worth at least Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd IMO.

Sather and Maloney probably looked on HF and found one they both thought was decent and did the trade.

Pretty much.

Spare change for a 10 dollar bill.

Not bad, Sather.

Rangers fans on Carp's blog are KILLING Sather over this deal.

I, personally, think it's fantastic.

Seems like overpayment my NY.

Was Morris really worth two young roster players and a defenseman?

I think this is a nice return for Phoenix for a rental player. Dawes and Prucha have top 6 potential, they just haven't received a fair chance in NY (especially Prucha). Maloney knows both players well.

As for the Rangers, I don't know if this move was worth it.

I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Removes two RFAs that we don't have to worry about re-signing (and who are completely and utterly redundant in our system) and we lose a spare part in Kalinin.

Morris is a definite upgrade over Kalinin (who was simply a throw in for salary, IMHO) and is worth two guys that have had bad years.

Meh, Dawes has had a fair enough chance. He's a pretty know commodity at this point, I would think. He's got a great scoring touch, can get overpowered physically because of his size, is sub-par defensively, and is prone to disappearing for weeks at a time in between hot streaks.

Prucha's the wild card of this deal. He's got the talent. Let's see what he does with the ice time.

Steal. Prucha is good but I only thought he was worth a 3rd or 4th, Dawes is a floater and Kalinin blows.

Love this deal for NYR.

Prucha, raised to folk hero status by some NYR fans, is an eminently limited forward. Dawes, too, is middling. Kalinin will be looking for an NHL job this summer. Looking long and hard.

Morris is a solid dman.

The "worst" GM in the NHL (according HF intelligentia in another thread ) made solid moves today.

In available cap space, yes. Dawes was headed to the press box once Avery came back, and Prucha was going to do the same upon Antropov's arrival. Prucha is a RFA at year's end, but, it's unlikely the Rangers would qualify him; he's making $1.6 million and qualifying him would mean a raise to $1.76 million, and that wasn't happening. As for Dawes, it's pretty clear he wasn't going to be a Tortorella player. Plus, Anisimov is ready, and Grachev is not that far away. Add in Dubinsky moving to LW. Dawes was not needed.

Agreed.

Not Earth shattering, game breaking moves but moves that very much improve the team and address some definite needs.

I am happy that we didn't mortgage much, if any, of the future as well.

Rangers make out like bandits as they trade junk for a good player.

But we still have to sign people next year to fill those spots. Antropov and Morris will cost a bit more than either Prucha or Dawes would have. Unless we can unload one of our big contracts over the summer, I can't see being able to resign either of them. Maybe Antropov if he'll sign for 2 mil again.

I would have to assume that the Rangers could only acquire Morris if they moved some salary, and this package of players was better than whatever pick(s) other teams were offering for Phoenix. Overall I don't think its a steal either way, Phoenix is a little weak on the wing and got a pair of youngish dark horse wingers.

Just terrible for Phoenix. Why not just hang onto Morris and see there is an ownership change between now and the UFA period. I mean, if your going to accept other team's garbage, why not gamble with him walking with no return? This is essetially no return, anyway. Maloney made a big deal about not losing Morris for nothing. Well, Donny, I got some bad news...

Awful.
