All Things Sean Avery (UPDATE: Avery Clears Waivers)

Larry Brooks says the Rangers are talking to Dallas about sending Avery to Hartford and maybe go on from there.

the move would be a good one especially cause the cap hit would be so much less had we re-signed him last summer

They will be monitoring him? What the hell is that? So they´re going to punish him for trash talking on the ice?

I don't care what people say about Avery. We are lacking top six wingers, attitude and feistyness. We have too many Drury's and Näslund's and too few Avery's.

When Avery actually plays hockey, he is skilled enough to be a top six winger. He is good enough defensively and has good vision and hands, topped with a good wrist shot. Once again, we have too many Callahan's and too few Avery's.

I also believe Avery knows he has to tone down the off ice slandering and be a good teammate. I do hope he continues to be a pest to the opponents on the ice though.

If Sather would be able to bring Avery in for four years under a 2 million cap hit, I'm all for it. There's nothing to lose here. It is also very possible we will face the Devils in a playoff matchup once again. And in a such, Avery would be gold.

My guess is Slats obviously will throw back a little more salary. Probably Kalinin and Voros.

Read Brooks' article. He'd be claimed on re-entry waivers. Not via trade.

Here's hoping Uncle Larry's pulled this one out of his ass. Even at half his salary I don't want Avery for 3 more years.

If we do this, does he still have his no movement clause, or does it go away once he is waived? I think I'd go for it either way, we haven't played with the same energy since he left and you can bet he's ready and raring to go. Needed some good news about the team after they betrayed me by putting the worst player in the NHL on the first line...

We pick him up on re-entry, and make them trade Wade Redden for future considerations!

Yes we are lacking top six wingers, only playing for the Rangers is Avery a top six winger, everywhere else he's a third line agitator.

Michael Vick has to get the okay from PETA.

Sean Avery has to get the okay from Emily Post.

Why? It's not like we're forced to keep him on the team if we bring him back and it doesn't pan out. Especially at half the salary, if the gamble doesn't work it's not a big chunk of change to eat. It's not like we're paying him $6.5m to... to... well I don't know what we're paying Redden to do.

The lockerroom is too 'little house on the praire', they're burning incense candles and re-birthing in the hot tubs. Passion in that lockerroom is their favorite tv show. I'm sick of the other team telling us "Thanks, we had a lovely time!" after Garden games.

This makes a lot of sense, but only in Glen Sather's world. We need scoring desperately so let's add a guy who MIGHT if we were lucky score 5 goals the rest of the way. Glen is trying to pull the wool over our eyes again by making one move that leaves us as incomplete, just like he did the last two years. Of course the trained monkeys in the 400's will cream their pants and all buy Avery jerseys again. They don't care about the hockey, they just want somebody to cheer for.

I'm not sure I get this.....what happened to all of the attitude, chemistry & injury concerns with Sean?

Did this all go away with a lower price and a few NHLPA classes?

ESPN Radio this AM is saying that Apparantly Avery is coming back to NY via waiver trade. Didn't mention another player. That was only a half hour ago or so, so I figured it woul be all over this place, but nothing has been confirmed I guess.

Not really sure what a waiver trade is though?

eh...Avery back on the Rangers seems like an idea that will only end in tears.

If he does come back, however, it's hopefully at the expense of Voros and not Korpikoski

This has Really Bad Idea written all over it.

Plus, bridges had already been burned after his departure...wasn't there smack talking between Avery and Valiquette, and others? Not to mention NY sports reporters (who shall remain unnamed lest the admins smite us again).

And especially these.

This year's Rangers are 29-18-5, but 0-2-1 in their last three games. They are widely perceived as a vanilla team that's a walk in the park as an opponent.
Exactly - because of Tom Renney's crappy system, NOT because they're missing one halfway decent third liner!!!! Bringing back one low-class punk with limited offensive skills, who disappears in the playoffs and causes constant distraction (especially in the locker room - did everyone forget about the fact that the reason Avery isn't playing has a lot more to do with the fact that the senior players in Dallas hate him rather than just his latest stupid comment?) ain't gonna change that.

No, no, no, no, no, no, NO. The only way I even CONSIDER this is if Redden's contract goes the other way. Then, and only then, I'd be willing to take a flier on whether or not he'd actually rehabilitated, because eating the extra $2MM - which I put at about 50% likelihood of being necessary by the end of next year - would be a good move just to get rid of Redden's extra $4.5MM (not to mention his extra 2 years).

Note that this is only if they take Redden straight up and we get Avery through waivers. If they both go through waivers so that we get half of Sean's contract while still having to keep half of Wade's it's still a no-go for me. Contract for contract straight-up without waivers...? Still no, I think. I would do Sean at half price for Wade at full price only.

But simply picking Avery up off of waivers and ADDING him to our cap load? That's a DEFINITE no.
