Good depth pickup without giving up an asset.

Don't the Caps have a ton of blueliners already?

I thought so, but they called up Alzner also.

The Caps also called up Alzner after last night's putrid defensive effort. Kronwall gives them eight healthy D so long as Alzner remains up.

Brent Johnson is going to be out for a while but claiming Legace would be surprising given his recent performance and contract. Maybe on re-entry.

They can't claim Legacy without dumping a contract now.

Is it true that if you claim a player off re-entry waivers that they must remain on your roster (cap) for the remainder of the season?

I could not have said it any better... happily I did not pay for the ticket... just had to buy a couple of beers...

the caps D looked horrible...

I still think both these moves are designed to do 2 things... put pressure on the D already here... hey boys... a body mover is coming... balls to the wall or you'll get scratched...

and secondly... stock up for a big trade later...

to Anaheim
Morrisonn
Lepisto
a D prospect (Godfrey hopefully, but not Finley or Carlson)
a forward prospect (Bouchard, Perreault or Gordon)
2009 1st

to Caps
Pronger

No. I have no idea where that idea came from.

Sounds like the Rule 5 Draft in baseball, but I don't think there is an equivalent in the NHL.

Apologies if it's already been answered, but does a re-entry claim automatically constitute an NHL assignment?

What I mean is, could the Caps now assign him to Hershey w/o waiving him again?

This may be moot as it sounds as if he might be DC-bound no matter what, I'm just curious what the options are at this moment as it would make soooo much more sense if he were headed for Hershey to replace Alzner.

He probably would have been picked up by Detroit anyways since his brother is already there. But Jokinen wasn't picked up by his brother Olli's club so maybe not.

Either way, good pick up for Washington. They badly needed the defensive help and he fits the bill nicely.

Bad move on Burke to try and sneak him through unnoticed.

Olli and Jussi aren't related.

I'm glad to see all the positive talk about Kronwall on these boards and other places... seems like he should be in TO playing but JFJ's moves prevented it...

So if Washington decides to send him to the minors (just for argument sake) does he have to clear waivers again? And if so is it at the reduced price that Washington is paying him from the re-entry (if a team decides to claim him)?
