Habs-Leafs rivalry renewed

Toronto Star today

Rivalry renewed

It's not where it was in the 1950s, when the Leafs and Canadiens met 14 times each season, even without considering playoffs. But it's also not the 1990s, when the teams played as few as two times each season. Here's how the Leafs-Habs have divvied up their private series, by decades (regular season only; shootout and overtime results counted as either wins or losses):

1920s Montreal 37, Toronto 30, 4 ties

1930s Toronto 37, Montreal 25, 8 ties

1940s Montreal 45, Toronto 45, 15 ties

1950s Montreal 72, Toronto 47, 20 ties

1960s Montreal 60, Toronto 47, 21 ties

1970s Montreal 28, Toronto 14, 9 ties

1980s Montreal 19, Toronto 10, 3 ties

1990s Montreal 13, Toronto 11, 1 tie

2000s Toronto 27, Montreal 19, 4 ties
