Bobby Ryan vs Jack Johnson

Who would you take for now and the future? Bobby Ryan and Jack Johnson were drafted #2 and #3 respectively after Sidney Crosby. Many people felt that Jack Johnson should've been drafted 2nd overall instead of Bobby Ryan, especially with the latter's early struggles to enter the NHL. Now that they've had enough time in the NHL to give a glimpse of their talent, who would you choose?

Ryan now, Johnson in the future. Only because a 1-2 defenseman is worth more than a top six forward, and I have no doubt that Johnson will challenge and potentially overtake in-the-near-future Doughty as our top d-man.

I'd love to see that. That way Ryan can get a Gordie Howe hat-trick next time he plays the Kings.

That's debateable.

Ryan could end up being a first line 90-100 point player, so unless Jack is winning Norris trophies it's pretty close.

I don't know how anyone could say "Johnson now," in any of these combinations.

Because the ducks made a huge mistake taking Ryan over Jack, everyone has said it so it must be true.

Yet here we are 4 years later and the ducks are being vindicated, they took alot of criticism, especially here.

The guy with 2 first names, now and in the future.

Really hope JVR turns out to be like Ryan is now, big guys who can score and make plays are really really nice to have.

qft. except i'm not sure it'd be that close. i'd take a 21 year-old ppg player over jack johnson fairly easily.

If Jack Johnson's potential is a 1-2 defenseman then Bobby Ryan's potential is at least 1st line forward if not franchise player. He only plays on the 2nd line because our 2nd line would be helpless without him.

What I meant was that Johnson has played ten games all year and has one point, while Ryan is a Calder contender.

He was being sarcastic. I also don't see how you could say "Johnson now." Ryan is clearly the standout player at this point, between the two of them.

Ryan Looks to be the real deal. Johnson is a defensemen that takes a while to develop. I still think Ryan is going to be better 5 years from now and even longer.

It's hard to compare a forward to defenseman, I like both of them but I would take Ryan.
