Evgeni Artyukhin to Montreal

I would LOVE to have this guy in Montreal. Doesn't have much offensive potential at all but the guy is a beast..plain and simple.

What do you think Montreal would have to send the other way if a deal took place?

Lightning fans might have something to say about that return.

I doubt he goes for a late round pick.

I think that there is too much hype over this player.. He is lazy and at some points during this season he was no more in the plan of Tampa, he got a chat with Tocchet and then start to play better.. But will he continue?

he is a fan favorite, fits tocchets system to a T, is an extremely unique player, and if he develops his finishing skills will be one of the hardest players to stop in the nhl.

i dont think hes moved. ok brought r2 in after asking fans who they liked and alot of responses were to bring back r2.

With his size and grit, he'd make room for himself!

Massive overpayment. Koules himself convinced him to comeback from Russia. He is also Tocchet's favorite.

Holy God...hopefully this doesn't get its own thread...

Just on a side note, and I don't want to start a flame war...but does anyone think Artyukhin kind of a dirty hitter? I think he makes some pretty questionable plays on a fairly regular basis...maybe he can claim Pronger physics, but I don't know...

He is kind of dirty, but still, I think he's the kind of player any team would like on their 4th line. He's huge, he skates well ( not just for a 6'5'' guy but for any size) and he's mean.

Pretty much all this will do is start a flame war. And no the guy isnt dirty, just big. Only questionable hit was the knee that came out and he was suspended for it (keep in mind of course that less than a full second prior to his knee coming out his left skate was clipped by another player causing him to go off balance, but that is an argument for somewhere else). He's no more dirty than some of the hits/things Morrow does in front of/behind the net but he is bigger and more of a spectacle is made of what he does.

On a team as soft as Montreal, I kind of like the idea of having someone playing a bit on the edge. Only Komisarek plays like that on our team as even Laraque follows his "code" with other players.

Nope, he has actually worked extremely hard with coaches to keep his hitting clean (one bit you'll notice is that on guys smaller than about 6'1 he actually squats before hitting) although yeah, at times when he hits guys it comes in high. Now this isn't some "LOL I AM BIG" thing like Pronger throwing elbows out but just sometimes getting a shoulder in high without getting that little squat going first. He's also learning to keep his hands almost waist level before hitting which is helping his cause in the penalty department as well. Tocchet is really helping him be clean, but nasty. Too bad you can't teach the kid softer hands.

I see...I've always liked Artyukhin, but I thought this year he's made some questionable hits, leading with his knees, hitting a guy from behind, etc. Maybe I'm just skewing the sample size, because I've seen roughly half of Tampa's games this year and I noticed a fair amount borderline plays or what have you...but maybe I'm just catching the wrong games...

Good to know that he's working on it with Tocchet...if he can keep it under control, he could be a valuable bottom six player in this league...

Thanks for the civil response Tampa fans

He's an animal and he can fly.

I'd take him any day of the week.

Sorry but I fail to see how that guy can help Montreal. We already have enough 3rd/4th liners.

We need a tough guy who can play hockey. Not another goon who is barely a NHlers.

Guy has three or four fights this year and in his NHL career. Terrible goon.

Ban him from the league.

That said I dislike the guy and don't think he brings anything special to a team - so go ahead Montreal, trade for him! Hell, Leafs will trade you Jamal Mayers for O'Byrne if you're looking for a hard-hitter who is a decent skater/checker but doesn't do anything else particularily well

The difference between R2 and Mayer is that R2 has been somewhat impressive this season.

R2 isnt a goon, he doesnt get the task of fightning on the team (if he does it can cause problems as he already has a reputation and gets calls for being him). Every team in the league would be pleased to have him on their team, he may not be more than a 3rd/4th liner but he is definetly a NHLer.
