Leafs to be waived according to Burke

Leafs will be waiving all players who are eligible for re-entry before the end of the season. Burke specifically named Mark Bell, Kris Newbury, Boyd Devereux and Bates Battaglia on AM640 Bill Watters show.

Any teams interested in any of these players???? does anybody know who else on the marlies is eligible?

No, most people on this board can outplay those guys. Not too much interest there.

Well, they should waive the entire team.

Looking at those names, I think I can safely say JFJ was the George Bush of hockey. Great job driving the most popular franchise in the league into the ground.

Devereaux is better than some 4th liners out there....not worth claiming off waivers, but he's better than the rest of that garbage

I don't get what the **** Burke is doing?

If there not good enough for the NHL team, fine. Why dismantle the Marlies too?

Kronwall = #1 D-man on Marlies - 5th on the team in scoring
Newbury = 3rd on the team in scoring
Bell = 4th on the team in scoring
Battaglia = 7th on the team in scoring

These are all huge parts of this team, and he's basically trying to get rid of them for free? Although Deveraux is probably playing the worst out of these guys in the minors, I actually liked him on the Leafs.

Thanks.

How Bates Battaglia is not on an NHL team continues to baffle me. Name alone should sell some jerseys.

According to Burke all of these players have been working hard and deserve a chance to play for NHL teams. I don't know who the agents for these players are but sacrificing veteran AHL players is a smart business decision in terms of building or maintaing a good relationship with agents. What goes around comes around these are the type of moves that can benefit a team later and if they don't the only thing lost is an AHL player. Leafs are better off playing younger players on the farm anyways.

If this is true I bet you the Hurricanes will pick up Battaglia....we need some toughness and I always liked Bates.

I think once the Leafs season is over, the Marlies will be getting some decent players to help them in the playoffs, and many of them have a future with the organization.
Mitchell, Kulemin, Frogren, Strahlman, Schenn (if Kelowna is out)

i dont think schenn can play for the marlies in the playoffs unless he plays a certain amount of regular season games and i think kelowna is out of the picture.

It would be a good idea to get schenn in some AHL games during slow weeks in order to make him eligible he wont be getting playoff experience in the NHL.
