But they still are on the hook for his contract in the cap, the can just renegotiate the terms. Would be better to bring him back on re-entry and let someone gobble him up and be on the hook for half his salary. Avery can just come back and say screw you 4 million for 3 years, pay me.
ahh okay cool thanks for the clear up

click on the nhl insider video on the right, Mckenzie makes a good point, if the Dallas doesn't put Avery on reentry waivers they don't have Avery counted against their cap the rest of the season and then can buy him out in the offseason, which would mean only 1.2 mil would go against their cap for the next few years...if I'm correct thats less than putting him on reentry waivers.

If I'm Dallas that doesn't sound like a bad plan.

I think he will definitely shake things up back on the Rangers and it is the BEST fit.
someone said the stars rather want 2 million dead space for the next 3 than 1.3 for the next 6 years. and they also save a few millions if someone picks him up on re-entry

Need some help from our salary cap "experts" here...IF the Rangers do claim Avery on re-entry waivers and IF at some point ion the future they decide they have to buy them out, the way I read the CBA they would be on the hook for his whole contract, not just the half that they would be paying. Anyone else read it the same way?

One day after clearing waivers, sources tell TSN the Dallas Stars have assigned winger Sean Avery to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers. Avery is already in Hartford along with the Rangers' media relations representatives to help deal with the expected attention Avery will draw.

There it is

This is a bad idea which might work in the short term but will only cause major headaches long term.

YESSSSSSS...someone with some balls. Hopefully he gets called up and clears re-entry ASAP.

Even Drury said we need a spark from somebody, somewhere.

Here's to Avery!!

Let's just hope he tone's down the off ice crap a tad, while remaining the biggest ass**** on it. After all, the Rangers and Dallas are giving him another chance at hockey.

Now we just need to trade for someone who can put the puck in the net...but hey, it's a start.

I tend to agree.. This guy goes bad and that's it cap hit for years.. He is a guy that basically has a no trade clause now cause he has no one who will take a shot. I will hope for the best but this move worries me. Idk what this team needs but afraid his antic may cause more problem then help team.

Worst case scenario, I look at it like this.

During our 7 years of futility, we always had someone on the team to keep the sideshow on the ice entertaining. The team was garbage, but guys like Barnaby, Fleury, and Kaspar gave you a reason to watch every night because you knew even the losses would be entertaining. Right now, the losses are horrendous. Even our wins are boring. Devils fans have said for years that if the Rangers were winning with a boring system then we wouldn't think it was boring. Uhm, yeah, not really. This team is better than sleeping pills even on a good night.

If nothing else, Avery will cure fan disinterest.

Rangers fans expect exciting hockey. So here we go.

Here is a reminder of what Sean Avery brings. Now we just need to replace Jagr.

Amen. The guy was nothing but kick-ass for us. Anyone who says otherwise has a very short memory.

Just remember that when you get Sean Avery, you get it all. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Here's the thing. I don't think Avery is a stupid guy. He might be an *******, but he's not stupid.

I think he realizes he may have pushed as far as he can push, so unless he truly doesn't care about his career and just wants to cause more ruckus (which won't last long, the league will have him on a short leash), he'll smarten up and shut his mouth.

The question becomes: how will this affect his performance on the ice? Will he be able to be as effective?

What ugly did we get as a Ranger?

All we have now is ugly and bad players without the good.
