It seems the NHL has finally succeeded where others have failed -- rigging their championship!

Wow....I can't believe Donte Stallworth got off as easy as he did. 30 days in jail? He killed someone, while drunk!!! It said that he "settled" with the family. He must have paid them a lot of money. That's disgusting to me.

And due to overcrowding, he'll probably be out in 15-20 days.

Folks, i'd like to suggest that if you're curious about what to do this weekend, that you head up to Mid Ohio for the Emco Gears Classic of Rolex Championship racing series. I've been working races for a few years now, and this is one of my favorite race weekends to flag. Lots of cars, really close competition, no way to know what will happen.

And the rain? Bring rain gear. Seriously. If you're dressed for it rain races are great fun, because absolutely everything changes.

And after it seemed unlikely they'd advance anyway. Might as well make some hay.

I know many here hate the Cavs but they traded for Shaq tonight. Makes you wonder if things would have played out differently in the playoffs if this had been done around the deadline when it originally was rumored.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4285489

The best part? Shaq may found out through twitter:

The best I've heard suggested are "Witness Protection" and "ShaqTake by the Lake" the latter if things go poorly, which they invariably will, as we are talking about Cleveland.

It's in the Confederations Cup, a preliminary tourney leading up to the World Cup next year. Spain held a record for most victories in a row, and a tie for the longest unbeaten streak.

So Confed Cup leads to World Cup. What is the CONCACAF? I don't follow soccer, but hear about all these tournaments/cups and get really confused.

The World Cup takes place every 4 years (will take place in 2010). The Confederations Cup is sort of a "World Cup Lite/Dry Run" that takes place the year before the World Cup, matching up the champions of each global federation (Europe, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, Oceania, Asia, Africa) as well as the last World Cup champion, and the World Cup host. In this case, this year's edition of the ConFed Cup featured:

1. Spain (champions of Europe)
2. USA (champions of CONCACAF)
3. Brazil (chanpions of CONMEBOL)
4. New Zealand (champions of Oceania)
5. Iraq (champions of Asia)
6. Egypt (champions of Africa)
7. Italy (World Cup 2006 champs)
8. South Africa (host of World Cup 2010)

CONCACAF (Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football) is the region in which the US competes. Other teams in CONCACAF include Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and many more.

Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, etc. compete in CONMEBOL, which is basically a fancy way of saying South America.

Spain competes in European qualifying. And so on and so forth.

World Cup qualifying takes place within each of the 6 global federations. The USA is currently competing against other CONCACAF nations in order to gain a spot in the World Cup. Each federation has a pre-determined number of qualifiers (32 teams in total qualify for the World Cup).

The most exciting thing tomorrow will be the men's quarterfinals at Wimbledon. I'm predicting Federer, Roddick, Murray, and Djokovic all win.
I like Safina on the women's side.

If Murray wins this thing, and I hope he does, Britain will have to shut the entire country down for at least a week.

They've been temporarily disabled to (hopefully) prevent the board from crashing as a result of all the traffic it'll get during the free agent frenzy.

Haas over Djokovic. Can't say I'm surprised - or disappointed. Murray and Federer move on. Roddick/Hewitt currently even up a set apiece.

Roddick beats the hometown favorite Murray to advance to the final.

Federer in 4 sets for the record.
