He was of course with the Pirates for the infamous italian sausage incident.

I'm a baseball fan too, and I really like the tournament. I'm a huge fan of international events all together. Heck, the only time I even watch basketball is the tournament, and the Olympics. I just think that it is poorly set up. Doing it right in the middle of spring training is a huge mistake. Also, only doing it every 3 years is a mistake. They should take a lesson from hockey and try to run it like the World Championships. Do it every year, right after the regular season ends. I think fans would get into it more if it was an annual event, as opposed to every 3 years.

I agree about it being somewhat poorly placed for MLB players, but you have to think about the teams in Asia when you plan something like this and I am pretty sure that they are in the middle of their seasons over there. I could be wrong though.

There I go again with my "it's all about us" American mentality. Whenever they do it, whether it be now, October, or the middle of July (would never happen) then I still think it needs to be every year.

Agreed, I really liked the first one and then this one kind of surprised.

well i just watched the end of the US-PR game with the US winning 6-5 on a rbi double by David Wright.

before this game i had not gotten into the WBC but after watching the PR up their lead to 5-3 in the bot of the 9th and then watching the US load the bases and come back to win 6-5 i found myself getting a little nervous towards the end....so i think im into the WBC now

I'm watching some late night Tennis on Fox Ohio, I'm no Tennis expert but these girls are whaling out with WOO's every time they hit the ball. It sounds like birds or something, what gives!

Better than the Monica Seles grunts. Seriously do you have to make a noise when you hit the ball like that? I go full bear in a baseball swing in Wii Sports and don't do that.

If they're like this in tennis, I'd hate to hear them in bed.

It started with Jimmy Connors I think, but at least he grunted....

Makes women's tennis a competition to see who can yell the loudest and weirdest.

Part of it is also to disguise the spin on the ball. Yes topspin and slice DO sound differently. You'll also see table tennis players stomp their feet a lot for the very same reason.

Can't you tell topspin or slice from how they hit the ball visually?

Yes, both have different motions. But just like a pitcher throwing a changeup, you can disguise it make a shot look like it's going to have topspin, and have no spin for example.

Also a ball coming of the strings well will have a much different sound than one hit near, or on the frame. Obviously if you hit the frame it's not going to have any spin at all. If all you hear though is "uuuuuuuuugh" though you don't know how well the ball struck the other players racket.

I could provide a rather substantial list of those who would be quite welcome to make any noise they like in my bed (theoretically, of course)! I've always found tennis players to be among the most attractive female athletes. Add that to a much more entertaining game to watch and women's tennis is one of my favorite spectator sports.

Oh, and a sharp exhalation helps provide more torso rotation and allows for more power on a tennis stroke. Or so I've heard - my game is pretty much devoid of power, these days!

Who's Jimmy Connors? Is he old and retired like Andre Agassi?

There is a school of thought that supports the release of air and energy at the point of contact, similar to why martial artists or say a discus thrower will yell at the point of contact/release.

Reportedly Stallworth was legally drunk when he killed that pedestrian.

Leonard Little got off easy with Tags in office. Goodell won't let Stallworth get the same fate.

OSU gets beat in the first round of March Madness, by little Ronald Moore of Siena. Good for them, lets see if they can beat Louisville...

They'll be too busy crying over all the freshmen and sophomores leaving their precious basketball program for a chance at millions of dollars.
