2-11-09 Avs at Wild 6 PM MT

I would assume that Raycroft gets the nod tonight.

Does it really matter at this point?

Horray! Go AVs.

Well...at least both teams will be well rested. The Wild haven't played since Sunday and the Avs haven't played a game since Thursday of last week.

My prediction:
Wild: X
Avs: X - Y
where X is a positive, non-zero integer, and Y is a non-negative integer less than X.

Our current "great young goalie" and on the cheap back-up are now a combined:

25-28-1 with a 2.98 GAA and a .897 Sv% (not to mention the momentum killing non saves, which don't factor in)

And yes, I know, Theodore is on a better team. The point remains that even with a couple of really bad stinkers this year:
21-10-2 with a 2.77 GAA and a .900 Sv%

On the cheap is not always the best way to go.

Theodore on this Avs team would have a much worse record than his mediocre record with the Caps this season. Do you think a mere .003 SV% and 0.21 GAA average difference would make up for any type of points in the standing situation we're in right now ?? Seriously ?

Your stats only go to PROVE that the Avs did the right thing by letting him go. He went to a better team and his stats are mediocre.

Theodore was not the way to go for the long term health of this franchise. He's a money grubbing, lazy, ungrateful jackass and ONLY TRIES during contract years. Watch next season, he'll be back up again in the second half. YOU may want this type of player on your team but I sure don't.

As for Q, I'm pretty sure we all thought they would hire a REAL coach instead of their buddy again especially when you consider how many really good up-and-coming coaches were available. You know, coaches that have actually COACHED BEFORE and proved their worth.

Oh yeah, I forgot

Q (minus the 4 Savard games) - 28-14-8 (4th in Conference)
TG - 25-28-1 (14th in Conference)

I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying...

Mediocre stats, yet 5 less wins than BOTH our goalies combined...in 21 less games.

As for the "only tries during contract years. That is the 100% biggest BS BS BS "excuse" in all of sports. As for the money grubbing part, I would like to see 10 total current NHL players, that wouldn't go somewhere else for more money.

This team is 95% the bolded part...

We can argue this until we are blue in the face...but at least in the NHL, the "W" is the biggest stat. He is getting them...the Avs goalies are not

Slogans of the week:

-Bring up Weiman!
-Race to the bottom!
-Apathy now!

I dunno, I'm bored.

My pledge still stands. Another McLeod goal and Bas Rutten is replaced.

Ah ok...if we're only looking at wins then I guess you're right. I guess Chris Osgood is the best goalie in the league by a lot then. Just because a team is playing well, winning games and the goaltender is getting WINS, doesn't mean it's because of that goalie. Where is David Aebischer nowadays, anyways? He had a 2.09 GAA and a .924 Sv Percentage with 32 wins in 2003-2004 and isn't even good enough to be in the league anymore.

I don't see how 'he only tries during contract years' is BS. It's a fact. He did it in Montreal and in Colorado and he'll do it again next year.

Not sure I can stomach even recording the Avs anymore... swept by the BJs...OMG.

The cupboard isn't bare, it's been demolished.

Personally I'll be watching USvMexico soccer in a important World Cup Qualifier tonight. If you have any interest soccer, this is the biggest rivalry there is for the US.

Even though Theodore doesn't have the best numbers in the world, he plays for Washington. A good Washington team, but certainly not one that's known for it's strong defensive play.

They're a run and gun team, and Theodore's been good enough to have a record well over .500.

That said, while maybe I don't think bringing him back was essential, it was essential to replace him if he wasn't brought back. Huet should have been signed (even though he hasn't been great himself this season) if Theodore was allowed to walk.

The fact of the matter is that he kept this team in it when injuries left Hlinka and Hensick as the teams top two centers, and was brilliant in the Minnesota series (which he pretty much stole). You don't replace a guy like that with an unproven back-up and expect the same success.

LOL...thats hilarious, its so true. Did you happen to catch the comment Budaj made about the first goal...""I totally knew what he was doing," Budaj said. "I was right by the post . . . it went through. It was one those bounces that's just disappointing because I felt great the entire night.""

Just another comment that makes me hate him more and more everyday.

You really think the Avs and Hawks are comparable? I'd take their roster over ours any day with a few exceptions.

Oh No...Jim and Sandy are talking about the Avs. Sandy's already taken some tiny shots at you all that were calling for Q's head last season. I wonder if he'll go on another tirade.

Getting rid of Q and Theo were the right thing to do, but it's who we replaced them with is the real problem.

Granato and Budaj/Raycroft was a terrible, terrible decision.

Sad thing is those tools probably believe the Avs would be this years Hawks if Q stayed.

And with all due respect, he's wrong here. It was time to move on, the mistake was to believe this organization would do the right thing and bring in some fresh ideas to the organization.
