Flyers left wing Simon Gagne suffered an upper body injury seconds after the opening faceoff in Philadelphia's game at Vancouver. He was checked into the boards by Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa, and will not return to the game.
In 35 games this season, Gagne has 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points and 16 penalty minutes. He is second on the team in scoring, and tied for 10th in the league.

He went into the boards hard, skated off under his own power, but wasn't moving his arm much, if at all. It looked like something with the shoulder, maybe a dislocation or separation or something. Didn't look good though.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Fifteen seconds into tonight's game with the Canucks, the Flyers lost the services of Simon Gagne after he was blindsided on a hit by Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa.
Gagne, who has made a remarkable recovery from a concussion that sidelined him for most of last season, appeared to injure his right shoulder. The Flyers said he suffered an "upper-body injury" and would not return.
After Bieksa hit Gagne, the left winger went down to the ice. Flyers captain Mike Richards immediately went after Bieksa and the two slugged it out. Bieksa appeared to have the edge.
"He hit Gaggy. I kind of saw it out of the corner of my eye. I felt it was kind of a cheap hit, a late hit and from behind," Richards said. "So I felt I had to do something about it. I thought it was a hit that should have been a penalty and there wasn't a call. So I think you kind of have to address it in a way that you don't want to but you have to."
As far as the severity I'd say pretty bad. If I'm remembering it right he tried to get over the boards but couldn't. Like it would take to much arm movement to get over, even without using them. Then he just gave up. Either that or he stopped to enjoy his front row seat to the fight.
Replay's on now for anyone who wants to see it again.
Kudos to Richards - Man the guy is Gold. If Hodgson can be close to Richards I'll be happy. BXSA's hit deserved retaliation whether clean or not and Richards jumps in on tough fighter without a second thought.
Canucks were determined to avenge the mugging they got last season and Gagne was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hope he's not hurt too bad.
