Now they just need to acquire a AHL franchise next year to place in Cedar Park.

Weird logo. Did the same thing with Iowa, take the basic logo and then make it look awkward. This one's even worse than Iowa's though.

I hate the name. It should be the Austin Stars or the Cedar Park Stars. I realize they are trying to 'capture the entire state,' but let us be reasonable. No one in, for instance, Lubbock, is going to go to a Texas Stars game in Austin. No one in Houston will either.

Better yet, maybe it should be called the Austin Bensons. The Austin Free Rides? The Austin We Let Everybody In?

I don't live in Lubbock, but Longview is much closer to Austin than Lubbock. It's not a state team, rather it's a local team. There's even another AHL team in Texas.

You mentioned Houston wouldn't. Houston is closer than Longview.

There's going to be 3 AHL teams in Texas now.

Houston, San Antonio, and now the Austin team. I agree with the name, just disagree that some of the fans won't make the trip down there (especially since they're the minor league team for the Stars).

Oh, that's right. I had forgotten about San Antonio. I'm still partial to the Austin Free Rides.

In my future, I see.....a partial season ticket package. Can't wait for them to go on sale.

Premature, yes, but damn, I'm excited.

Just contacted the Stars. $100 deposit going down on tickets when they call back.

Lobo, once again....you the man.

On third thought, how about the Austin Arsonists? It has a certain ring to it and is, surprisingly, prescient.

why dont they just play at deja blue? where the tornadoes play? that would make more sense.... cause the art looks like deja blue... there is all ready too much pro hockey in Texas adding another team is ridiculous... you know Texas has the most pro teams of any state or province of Canada. Freakin nuts.

It's under renovation for the next year.

The arena is closed for a year as they expand it (I believe that's the renovation taking place there?)

The Tornado are also taking a year off because of it.

My roommate was at the ground breaking yesterday. I'm pretty psyched to have AHL hockey minutes from my door.

That logo is bad. I thought the Iowa logo was a fresh take on the Dallas/Minnesota version - but this is just bad. Star Wars and the 80's and roller rinks and 2 shades of green. Yuck.

I'm surprised by the name of the development. Hicks has shown a flair for the dramatic here in Dallas, with Victory Park and Glory Park.

I'd love to go down to Austin and see some games, I just wish they would go with a different name. For one thing, wouldn't Texas Stars make more sense as the NHL franchise since it's "Bigger" (not that i want that of course) and for another, re-using the Stars name doesn't do much to endear a franchise locally, i'd rather see then named something that will intrigue Austin fans.

I travel to Austin several times a year on business. Can't wait to get to a game while down there.

Received email back from Brian with the Dallas Stars today. I'll post more information as it comes in if anyone's interested.

I'd have taken off from work to be at the groundbreaking, if I'd only known the time and date.

Yeah, we've got the Aeros to fulfill our hockey needs. Not to mention the other pro sports teams in the city.
