small trades that don't do jack squat and that is going to be the New York Rangers at the deadline for the next half decade.

What I expect, and what really will happen are probably to very different things. What I think will happen is that Dawes and/or Prucha + a pick will be moved out for someone like Tkachuk. What I would like to see happen is to bring in Neil, Lombardi, and Bouwmeester. Of course I would love for us to bring in a high profile scorer, but Im trying to keep my hopes realistic, even though I understand Bouwmeester might go against that thought. Shipping out Redden or Rozsival would need to be done of course to bring him in, which is highly unlikely. Neil I'd love to add because of the grit and sandpaper effect of potentially having Avery and Neil. Lombardi has always been a personal favorite of mine because of his speed and ability to score, although he's been lacking in that department of late I know.

What will happen, not much. Renney still here, our PP continues to be terrible. Prucha gets moved out, very minor moves will be the reality of our current cap situation.

They'll make some minor moves just like they have in the previous years. Sather will probably trade with the usual suspects: Phoenix, St. Louis, Edmonton, Burke in Toronto, etc.

With the lack of cap space and the lack of trading chips, probably the usual Sather minor trade.

I see Sather making lateral moves with middle of the road players at best in order to make the team better. Like he usually does, he will fail at it.

I see more threads being started going over the same things rather than just posting in the threads that have already been started.

This board is becoming a chore searching through the numerous threads that are started everyday.

As much as I'd like to see a big contract moved, I suspect that won't happen until the summer, if at all.

We're policing this pretty hard right now, but I'm not sure what would happen if I merge (2) threads with polls. Instead of experimenting, I'm leaving this one that Inferno put a good bit of work and thought into.

I want them to make a big move (Kovalchuk), but Glen's post-lockout history indicates that he waits for the offseason to do things on that scale. I voted with my head, but my heart is hoping for something else.

I selected "other"

I think Sather is open to any kind of trade that seems like we're getting the better end of the deal.

For example, Zherdev for Tyutin

Where's the "trade for impending free agent like Tkachuk, while moving enough salary to get a deal done, while not being able to move a big contract" option?

The one I voted for was "pick up a big name for one of their big names"
aka Kovalchuk

one can dream aahah

This is a poll, so it should stand alone, but, we probably need some kind of rumors/potential trades (only with regards to the Rangers) stickied, especially since we are closing in on the trade deadline, and the rumors are only going to get louder.

I see a sorta big deal....

Ruutu, Kuba, Vermette to the Rangers

Dawes, Korpikoski, and 2nd round pick to Ottawa..

I see Prucha moved for a draft pick

I see Kalinin possibly moved because of his salary

I see Voros waived....

The lineup would be...

Vermette Gomez Naslund
Avery Dubinsky Zherdev
Ruutu Drury Callahan
Sjostrom Betts Orr

Staal Rozsival
Redden Girardi
Kuba Mara

just curious but would that work out cap wise.

also I just don't see Avery and Ruutu getting along on the same team, nor do I really want them both on the Rangers. Especially Ruutu.

Like Kuba though.

Instead of going for Jarrkko Ruutu I really hope the Rangers go for his brother Tuomo. He's a good goal scorer and adds a lot of toughness to our team.

I used hockeybuzz's salary calculator as the source...

Dawes 587,500.00
Korpikosk 1,017,533.00
Kalinin 2,100,000.00
Prucha 1,600,000.00
Voros 1,000,000.00
TOTAL 6,305,033.00

Vermette 2,762,500.00
Ruutu 1,300,000.00
Kuba 3,000,000
TOTAL 7,062,500.00

Avery 3,875,000
50% 1,937,500.00

We would be taking on 9 million in salary while giving up 6.3. That is assuming the Prucha and Kalinin deals are made without taking salary back.

Those would be the Usual Suspects for sure

1) Deal for a guy like Tkachuk for Dawes , good pick (2nd/3rd)

2)I think they will deal for a physical 6th Dman like O'Brien from Vancouver.........for pick or Kalinin or Prucha..........waive Kalinin regardless

3) the more obvious bring in Avery

I would be good with something like this:

Tkachuk Gomez Naslund
Avery Dubinsky Zherdev
Korpikoski, Drury, Callahan
Sjostrom, Betts, Orr, Voros

Redden , Girardi
Staal, Rozsival
Mara, O'Brien
Reitz

Lundqvist
Valliquette

Voros for Mayers

gives us a tough, strong leader/vet, we move Sjostrom up to the 3rd

AND he's only signed for one more yr, insted of Voros' two

Voros is a bum.

I would love for the Rangers to get Neil AND Vermette and then grab Avery off of waivers.

Neil + Vermette for Dawes, Voros, Byers, 2nd 09

Also Kalinin IMO should be traded as both Potter and Reitz look like they can do the same job for less money.

Buffalo 3rd 09 for Kalinin

new lines:

Naslund-Gomez-Callahan
Zherdev-Drury-Vermette
Avery-Dubinsky-Neil/Prucha
Sjostrom-Betts-Orr/Neil

Rozsival-Staal
Girardi-Redden(although I would love for him to be traded)
Mara-Reitz

That lineup IMO looks much better for a run in the playoffs than the one currently assembled. Especially adding players like Vermette and Neil who add size, speed and tenacity to a small team.
