News And Notes
Quote:
''I thought our goaltender was our best player [Thursday night], and he really started things,'' said coach Pete DeBoer, whose team has won here just twice since 2003. ``I thought we scored some good goals, too.''

The win was Florida's second in a row and fourth in five games, giving the Panthers' postseason hopes a boost. Not only did Florida put another two points between it and the Hurricanes, but it also pulled into a tie for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with Buffalo.

And, believe it or not, the Panthers can move up much higher. With Philadelphia losing to Ottawa on Thursday, Florida is just three points out of fourth place in the conference standings. Florida hasn't been to the postseason since 2000.

''You want to look forward and not back,'' DeBoer said. ``That's the approach we have to take. You want to continue to hunt. That's been our identity all year. We want to hunt down teams ahead of us and attack.''
Sun-Sentinel: Vokoun leads Panthers past Carolina, 5-0
Miami Herald: Florida Panthers shut out Carolina Hurricanes 5-0
George Richards' Blog, Your Source For Reliable, Early Panthers Info!

Red Hot Cat Of The Night Stephen Weiss, with 9 points in his last 8 games, now leads the team in points, assists, and plus/minus.

Primary Target
Friday the 13th, ok not really. Obviously it's an arbitrary number with unnecessary fear associated with it. But lately, the Panthers overcome all odds. A 3 goal 3rd period comeback for the first time ever against Toronto, a 5-0 shutout of the Hurricanes. If everything goes well tonight, they could very well end up in 6th at the end of the night. If that happens, the only thing this day will be associated with is happy memories.

Wonderful GDT, thank you. Going for another Florida win.

BTW, the thread got closed last night so I'm a bit off-thread, but did anyone see Horton's goal from a different angle than the one the TV feed gave us? It appeared really, really tight. I'm surprised that thing got in.

Horton's accuracy is incredible...its actually why he pauses and waits to take shots.

You're going to the game too? Any tips on getting tickets? I was thinking I'd try to scalp some.

This will be a tougher test. The Rangers aren't that good tho, but I'm speaking more towards the fact the Panthers are playing back to back whilst traveling.

NYR is boring...prepare to fall asleep.

Would of thought Anderson would get the start tonight.

Anyways, hopefully the Panthers come out tonight with the same energy they had in Carolina.

I love how the defenseman are so active from the blueline

I know it sounds dumb, but its something that we don't see much more from a lot of teams.

Boynton get the wrist shot through! *****kkk ,then you get caught flat footed and almost cost Panthers a good scoring chance yet again.

Pete ,keep meat out on the ice after practice working on that simple pee wee hockey play. It's going to cost us in a big time game.
