Mitch Gaulton?

What do you think? Sleeper in the Sixth round? Or bust? After blowing his elbow and being out of organized hockey for 13-14 months, and back on the Erie Otters defensive lines, can he make a comeback and play for the Rangers? Or even make the farm team?

Lol thats why I said "do you think".
I want to know what people think. It's a matter of personal opinion.

Well I wouldn't call any 6th rounder that doesn't make to the NHL a bust. But to be honest its wayyyyy to early to prognosticate Mitch's future. If you scan the Prospect thread you'll see that he's just recently getting his legs under him.

This is a guy most of us havnt seen play. He's coming off a major injury. He's only played in a handful of games so far.

So of course he'll be the next Paul Coffey.

No dude, you can clearly see in his extensive play in our system that he's the next Alexei Gusarov. What the hell are you thinking.

One thing we do know about him, he's WITHOUT DOUBT the feel-good story of the year.

Supposedly they year before the inuury Gaulton was mentioned as one of the best defensive prospects of his age group. Of course the major surgery put a damper on that, but I guess we will see. Hoping for a late round GEM!

A, New York Rangers – The Rangers picked a total of seven players and at NACS, there were a few we loved. The selection of Michael Del Zotto was another first round pick the Rangers made that, in a few years, will have people wondering why the kid fell in the draft. At No. 20, the Rangers got a defenseman who has as much offensive skill as any in the draft at his position, including Drew Doughty. Although Del Zotto’s defensive game needs work, it’s not something he can’t learn and improve on. The second round selection of Derek Stepan was interesting because there were a lot of safer picks and in our opinion, more skilled players available. Later, the Rangers took Evgeny Grachev, Tomas Kundratek and Chris Doyle much lower than they should have gone, which bodes well for down the road. New York finished by taking the oft-injured, but a personal favorite, Mitch Gaulton from the Erie Otters. Although Gaulton hasn’t played enough for scouts to get a good evaluation on him, trust me when I say there is a reason he was a top five pick in the OHL. Assuming he can stay healthy, Gaulton may be a pleasant surprise for Gotham City.

Well according to his agent back just before his first elbow injury, he was within the top 10 picks in the NHL Entry Draft.

And he dropped into the late 6th round. Does that not tell you that no teams have any information on him? If teams with thousands of dollars invested in multiple credible scouting sources have no idea what his status and potential is after the injury then how the hell are a bunch of schmucks on a message board going to know? This is a question that MIGHT be relevant during 2010-11 training camp. Until then he has to heal and get back into the game.

I don't know much about the player but i would think that a surgery wouldn't drop him around 170 picks or so...be very hesitant in trusting a person who's paid to sell his ability to teams
