Just like in 1909

TSN.ca

Sports and Entertainment, which televises Avalanche games, broadcast the second period Friday night in black and white to commemorate the Canadiens' 100th season in the NHL.

I watched the game on that channel through ATDHE and they clearly stated that the first televised game didn't come until the early fifties, so, yeah.

They're dumb, but not that much.

Are you making reference to Charlie Chaplin himself, or his character The Tramp? If it's the latter, The Tramp made his first appearance in the 1914 film Kid Auto Races at Venice, so there is no way the referees would've known about this in 1909.

I heard it was going to be black and white on RDS ... but it wasn't I was sad.
I checked tsn and they weren't doing the black and white thing. Was it only local tv in Colorado or something????

re: 1909

when bruins played at habs a couple of weeks ago that sfternoon, on nesn, the bruins telecast, as the game was about to start their announcer said, "the bruins are wearing their road whites, the canadiens are wearing their grandfathers pajamas".
