But yeah, the guy seems to hate hockey, and doesnt really know much about it at all.

While we're on THN Adam Proteau can be weird too. He once spent an entire article complaining how no NHLer has "come out" and how it may be our fault as an NHL culture. I guess it beats talking about Alexandre Ovechkin's goals. Proteau seems a little more levelheaded when he's on Off the Record, but he's like Campbell, both are anti-fighting advocates and they remind of it time and time again.

Also if Bob McCown was a writer, I think he'd be the worst. No one from Ohio should be giving any advice on Hockey, stick to Baseball Bob.
I liked Bob's book about hockey. I think I read that article by Proteau (not sure - there was a feature in THN a couple years ago about a gay tournament down in the States and it talked about that). I actually think that's an interesting topic for an article. They don't all have to be ridiculous build up / tear down articles about a player or team (which seem to be fill in the blanks and come up every month with a different team / player name).

Stop right there. In Bob's book, despite the help he had writing it, he still claimed Phil Housley was the best player to never win a Cup and passed it off as gospel. Anyone around here ever even say that?

He also denounces anything that happened pre 1967 and ignores those dynasty teams because there were six teams (not my quote, but his). He believes in overhauling the points system, he denounces secondary assists even though anyone who has watched hockey would see that sometimes the second assist created a better play than the primary assist. The man has no right to talk and pretend to know anything about hockey. He isnt fooling me

Hradek, Frei, etc. Most of the buffoons at ESPN. Also, Tim Pannaccio, for any Philly area or hockeybuzz readers.

I'm also not a fan of Damein Cox. Local sports writers are usually the worst.

Another vote for Ken Campbell.

Beyond everything that's already been said, he also writes bs opinion columns based on misleading, incomplete and sometimes flat-out wrong information, and then cites them as facts in his other articles.

Last year, for example, he wrote a mess of a piece saying how all goalies were overpaid because of the laws of supply and demand. Basically he went on the explain that since there are only 30 starting goalies in the NHL and that there are hundreds of thousands of goalies in the world, their salaries should be kept low since there are so many people to take over. HMMM, maybe, just perhaps, there are only 30 or so goalies who are actually good enough to start in the NHL? And maybe with it being such an important position teams will have to pay for what they get?
To back up his arguments he then compares the average salary of the 30 top-paid (not starting, just 30 top paid) goalies to the average of all forwards and defensemen, including the fourth-liners and reserve skaters. Maybe if his initial argument was based on reality, instead of a completely mangled and backwards understanding of supply and demand, he wouldn't have to used skewed stats to back it up, but noooo, he has to spew this garbage and he has to find any way possible to show that he is totally right.

Then, convinced of his own greatness and brilliance, he repeatedly states in his later articles that "all goalies are overpaid anyways, due the law of supply and demand", seemingly hoping that nobody has a brain and will simply accept his word as fact if he says it enough.

Ken Campbell is a joke. After subscribing to THN for 11 years I finally cancelled it just because of him, and frankly the person on the phone told me he's heard that as a reason quite a few times. Maybe those guys will fire him soon (and send Jason Kay and Adam Proteau out with him ok...) so we can finally get a decent hockey magazine back.

/rant

Rosie DiManno should probably stop writing about anything sports-related.

Those who read the Toronto Star probably realize her style (and knowledge) isn't exactly suited for sports.

Larry Brooks makes things up and reports them as truth.

Mark Everson is still bitter that Larry Brooks has his dream job (Rangers' beat writer), while he's forced to report on the Devils. He also makes things up and reports them as truth.

Scott Burnside repeats a bunch of hockey cliches and pretends they make him insightful.

I'm surprised it took 3 posts to mention this hack.

Who is this Ken Campbell and how would it be possible for anyone to write worse than Bruce Garrioch?

Bruce Garrioch, Mike Brophy and Ken Campbell.

And whoever the editor of THN is, that bald guy, the editor's notes at the beginning of each issue are brutal.

Wow just about every hockey writer in Canada has been mentioned. I think a more appropriate thread would be "Good hockey writers" because every one of them has at least one hater at Hfboards. But that's what diverse opinions will do.
