The Kings will be very good in the next five to six years. Anything past six years is too long to estimate as a lot of players could be moved by then, new players drafted, Dean Lombardi leaving, etc.
The Kings are going to have a crazy defense, which will dominate within this time frame. The only missing piece at this time is a generational goaltender like Patrick Roy, or Martin Brodeur. If the Kings can draft this type of goaltender, this team can become the next New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, or Detroit Red Wings where they can win at least two Stanley Cups (or more) within the next ten years.
Colorado is a perfect example. They had an excellent cast of players up front, but lacked that one generational goaltender to put them over the top. By adding Patrick Roy to the Avalanche, it propelled the team from playoff contenders to Stanley Cup contenders in one season. To me, this is all that Los Angeles is missing right now, is that generational goaltender.
kings might not be as good as ppl think... problem with alot of good young guys is you have to resign them.. hard to have a dynasty in cap world
Brown and Kopitar both signed long term. O'Sullivan signed for 3 years, Greene signed for 5 Stoll signed for 4. A couple of RFA's to sign this year. A few guys on the first years of ELC's which will be coming up when they havemore moeny coming off the books.
Depends on AEG's commitment to winning. So far they have shown us that they only use the Kings and Staples Center to develop LA and line their pockets. The core is set. Let's see if they keep it together.

Thought about this the other day, the Avalanche are a good comparison.

He's a talented goalie, but not generational. Like 1927 said they have a serious opportunity to be an elite team but it will take an elite goalie to do so.
But we never know, Bernier could become at least close to that.
We all thought the Pens were gonna be dominant for years didn't we? They are pretty dominant right now...
Who's to say they won't be? They were in a bad situation last off-season. There's still plenty of time to turn it around. Our core is still in their early/mid 20's.
It's hard to say. Will they be able to keep all their young players and stay under the salary cap?
I still think Jack Johnson is nothing special and just an average defenseman. Doughty looks good, but not dominant. I've seen him get undressed by goal scorers multiple times.
They have potential to be a to be a top 4 team in the West soon, but will they reach it? It's yet to be determined.

I dunno. Quick and Bernier are looking pretty good to me. Dunno if they'll reach that level, but they're showing promise.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Yes because of course there's no room for further improvement after having played 50-100 NHL games. I also don't understand why Doughty is not dominant. Last season in juniors he was ! Jack Johnson should have had a 50-60 point season already. I dont care how he plays. I only pay attention to the scoresheet and that's not looking good, Jack.
Having said that. I doubt the Kings will be a force for years to come. I do think (hope) they can make one run for the stanley cup in the next upcoming seasons.
