Staios for a 3rd or 4th rounder

Cole maybe for a 2nd rounder, or possibly a 3rd and a decent prospect.

Penner- Who knows? That salary is a tough sell with plenty of teams, especially for a guy with work ethic issues. It all depends on a coach or GM who thinks they can turn him around.

There is too much potential there for 30 teams to pass him up, Penner has value.

His value would be negative, IMO. He is payed way too much for the next two years and with cap space at a premium, I don't think anyone will touch his contract.

I could see Burke taking him in TO. Of coarse it depends if Lowe would deal with Burke, and if he would bite the bullet and admit it was a terrible offer sheet. Something like Poni for Penner and 2nd or 3rd?

I could see a cap-floor team picking up Penner on the cheap. I could also see some team with an equally bad contract considering a swap for Penner (Ryan Whitney?)

Penner for Witt?

Witt's got 2 yrs/$6m left after this season.

Penner's got what, 2 yrs/$8m after this yr?

Seriously? I'd love that trade. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Penner has 3 more seasons at a hit of $4.25 per.

3 mores yrs?I thought it was just 2.

One of the nyi bloggers, with strong ties to the team had pointed out that if the team took back some salary, they'd be in a better position at the trade deadline to pull something off.I think Botta was suggesting more along the lines of taking back an extra $1m a yr.

Penner's probably too expensive a pickup.

I would be shocked if Cole nets you a first, I think a 2nd, or maybe a 2nd and half-ass prospect

Cole's play of late sure has shown hes worth a 1st. He has been strugglinbg for the past few games but this past couple of months he has been great. He also has SC final expierience, lots of teams would overpay for that kind of help for the playoffs.
