What intrigues me about the Flyers top 20 list, is Marshall > Parent apparently.

Parent seems to be very under rated and unappreciated by many since he's pretty much a defensive specialist without a gritty edge. The guy is already a very solid NHL'er playing against the Crosby's of the world on a nightly basis. I'll believe Marshall is better or equal to Parent when I see it.

Yeah, this has been the case since we acquired Parent, that he's been underrated. I believe one of the HF writers explained as being that they think he's got a lower ceiling then some of our other defensive prospects due to his lack of offensive game. Apparently, that overcomes the fact that he's playing top minutes already against the best opponent forwards every night. Not sure I agree with that, but whatever works for them I guess.

Personally, I'm just happy to look at a pipeline that includes Sbisa, Marshall, and Parent, with guys like MA Bourdon, Bodrov, Lehtivuori, etc. as upcoming possibilities. That's a pretty solid set of defensive prospects, and even includes some guys who could give us that elusive "snarl" we've been missing (Marshall in particular, but Bourdon and Bodrov sound like they can take the body as well).

Of the prospects we have right now, we know that Giroux, Sbisa, and Parnet are all going to be NHL players, and JVR even if he busts will still be a decent player because of his raw talent. Other than that who actually has a chance with this team?

We are loaded with young talent already so it'll probably harder than usual for the prospects we have now to make the team since there are young players and not aging vets ahead of them. Can Marshall and Maroon make it? Bourdon looks great, but does he have what it takes to play defense in the NHL?

Isnt Marshall projected to be close or similar to what Parent brings to the table defensively? I think Marshall has quite a bit more offensive upside. At least from what I understand. I am not up on watching the juniors as some other people are around here, but thats what I seem to gather from reading the posts and stories about him on here.

It's hard to say because I would have never guessed that Sbisa and Powe would be regulars coming into this season. I think Maroon might have a shot to be a Knuble replacement in a year or so. Bourdon/Marshall/Bodrov all may get a shot in the next year or so as well.

Matsumoto may end up a 4th line center at some point.

Lehtivuori signed a 3 year deal with the Flyers according to the Finnish media

I just saw on eliteprospects website that Ladislav Scurko, one of your prospects, just confessed to murdering a referee. Does anyone know anything about this, that is absolutely awful?

That's not an indictment of Marshall, I think he has a good shot to make the team out of camp next year from what I'm hearing. It is just interesting considering what Parent was supposed to be when we traded for him.

article mentioning prospect Michae-Lee Teslak:

http://www.mtulode.com/article/2009/...g-success-pros

Quote:
Goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak, who left the Huskies before his senior season, spent a large chunk of the first half of the season with the Philadelphia Phantoms while their parent squad, the Philadelphia Flyers, struggled with their goaltending. Unfortunately, he didnít see any action during the confusion.

The Phantoms finally moved Teslak to the Elmira Jackals in the East Coast Hockey League around mid-season to give him some game time, and all heís done is lead the Jackals to first place in the North Division and a playoff spot. Teslak is 17-10-1-3 in 33 games this season and has one shutout.
Teslak also had a big game for Elmira vs. Trenton in round 1 of the ECHL playoffs. He had 71 saves over 126 mins and 10 seconds which turned out to be the longest ECHL game ever. Elmira won 5-4.

What I have heard about Marshall is he is a little more nasty than Parent, although they both are projected to be good stay at home guys.

I actually wanted to ask about Matsumoto...I may have before, or someone may have mentioned this and I apologize if so, but I am too lazy to search

What does the organization think of this guy? What is his upside? I remember when he was drafted he was compared to Sharp (pre 30 goals), a guy that was not great at any one thing but a steady guy that seemed to be a guaranteed bottom 6 player in the NHL at some point. He has looked pretty good to me whenever I watched the phantoms but guys like Ross, Powe, Kalinski etc. have all been given chances ahead of him.

What do you guys think/know about Matsumoto?

Parent is underrated, he may not have Hatchers physicality, but he does such a good job reading plays and making good decisions. In the playoffs at the end of a PP, he noticed that Cooke was leavign the box and retreated, which confussed Timonen, leading to a turnover. HE went down to block the pass but Cooke made a nice pass to Crosby who slide tackled the puck in the net. Its little things like that I havent seen from any other defensemen on this team. I know its a bad example because the result was bad, but I thought it was a good play. Lets say Parent stays in the offensive zone, Timonen passes the ****, it gets picked and Cooke has a breakaway out of the box.

Kinda pisses me off some people only look at the numbers when comparing a defenseman. Parent wont score many goals. But that doesnt make him a bad player. Parent is a good player and is getting better. Hope he plays all 82 next year.

Be interested to see how he gets on, knowing nothing about Leksand or their current goaltenders it would be interesting to know how good they are as a team and what role he is expected to fulfill next year, maybe a guesstimate at his number of starts.

From what I've been reading, he'll share duties with 32 yr old Timo Leinonen. The deal is only a 1 yr contract, so it opens up the posibilty to come to NA the following season.

Some first round picks won't look like good picks if they're guys like Parent, because they're never going to put points on the board. Mark Stuart is a similar example.

comparing the two players penalty minutes, it seems Marshall has more of a mean streak than Parent. or he is slow. I hope it is the mean streak.

It's a mean streak. In the lineup he'd be one of our meanest defensemen oddly enough except the rare times when Coburn goes berserk.

It's likely, but I expect to see him called up.

Remember how Stevens REFUSED to use an AHL call-up on defense during the season even before the cap issues?

Now with Marshall he has no excuses. Marshall has performed well in the Q, and has as much time there as Giroux. Hell Kevin won the Q championship too.

Depending on how well he performs in the preseason I might not even mind him pairing up with Sbisa on the 3rd line. I have high hopes for this kid, and I like him coming into the lineup as much as I liked Parent joining the Flyers this past offseason.
