The Thrashers are in Los Angeles tonight to face the Kings in their second of back to back games and their second in a four game West Coast road trip.

Last night a different side of the Thrashers emerged as they blew out the Ducks with an 8-4 victory. Ilya Kovalchuk scored a Hat Trick while Colin Stuart scored his second shorty of the season. Goaltender Kari Lehtonen gained an assist on a end to end empty net goal by Niclas Havelid.

Earlier today the Thrashers traded Mathieu Schneider to the Montreal Canadiens. In return the Thrashers have gained two draft picks this year and one in 2010.

Ron Hainsey who left the game half way through the third period last night with an undisclosed lower body injury is probable to play tonight.

Johan Hedberg is probable in goal tonight.

All lines listed above are projected only. If time allows and more information is provided, the lines will be adjusted.

AP Thrashers - Kings Preview

Feb 16, 2009, 10:30 PM ET
TV Information

Local Away: SPSO

The Los Angeles Kings continue to put plenty of pressure on opposing goaltenders, but they're suddenly having trouble converting those chances.

The Kings try to break out of their mini-scoring slump Monday night when they host the Atlanta Thrashers, who hope to match a franchise record with their fourth straight road win.

After scoring 32 goals during a 7-1-0 stretch, Los Angeles (24-22-8) has managed just two combined goals in losing its last two games - both at home.

The Kings lost to Edmonton 3-2 in a shootout Saturday and have fallen five points back of eighth-place Anaheim in the Western Conference.

Los Angeles managed just one goal in the first 59 minutes against the Oilers before captain Dustin Brown, who is second on team with 21 goals, sent the game into overtime on a power-play score with 26 seconds left in regulation.

Although the Kings again struggled to find the back of the net, they had no shortage of scoring opportunities. Los Angeles outshot Edmonton 41-21 and is averaging 36.6 shots in its last five games.

"It seems that we're generating a lot of chances but weren't not getting any lucky breaks," said center Anze Kopitar, who has 16 goals and a team-high 43 points. "If we're creating, I'm sure those breaks are going to come."

With the offense stumbling, goaltender Jon Quick had another solid effort go to waste. Quick, who is 4-1-1 with a 1.80 goals-against average and one shutout in six games this month, has stopped 37 of 40 shots in the Kings' last two games.

Quick, who has made 10 straight starts, has never faced the Thrashers (20-32-5).

Atlanta makes the short trip to Los Angeles after defeating Anaheim 8-4 on Sunday in its highest scoring game since an 8-3 win over Ottawa on Jan. 2, 2006.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored three goals in a 6:51 span of the second period for the Thrashers, who totaled just nine goals in their previous six games combined.

Kovalchuk, who also had an assist, has a goal in each of his last four games.

"I think he has really been skating well the last three or four games," Atlanta coach John Anderson said. "He is starting to feel like himself again. He's hounding the puck, he's chasing the puck. He gets it - he's dangerous, obviously."

Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves Sunday to help the Thrashers, owners of the league's second-worst record, win for just the third time in 10 games.

As disappointing as this season has been, Atlanta has played much better on the road lately.

The Thrashers, who opened a four-game road trip Sunday, have won three straight away from Atlanta after going 2-6-1 in their previous nine road contests. The franchise record for consecutive road wins is four, most recently accomplished Nov. 3-21, 2007.

Lehtonen has been in goal for each game during the road winning streak, posting a 1.95 GAA in that span. In his only career game versus the Kings on Jan. 16, 2007, Lehtonen made 28 saves in Atlanta's 6-2 victory - the last meeting between these teams.

While the Thrashers have had some success on the road lately, they are 1-4-0 at Los Angeles. The Kings lead the all-time series 7-1-2.

I'll catch the 1st period before going to bed.

I am interested to see how the Thrashers handle the trade. Schnieder was wearing an A, and they made the trade in between back to back games.

Were the Thrashers still rotating A's after Ilya got the C, or will we see a new player sporting an A tonight?

We have allowed 198 goals so far this season. Only the Leafs have allowed more. I think we can afford to roll the dice here.

What's the status on Hainsey?

Is he right to go after getting injured against the Ducks.

Holy crap. Chasing goalers on back to back nights? This is sick. I may actually endorse relocation as long as it's to southern California

Really like Bogosian's willingness to fire the puck on goal. Thank you Matthieu Schneider for the tutoring. #4 is becoming a fast favorite.

Someone needs to pound Kopitar for that cheapshot to Enstrom's head.

That was just plain dirty, 5 minute major dirty.
