One question, would you take a D core for Vinny?

I do realize this is an Eklund rumor, http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?blogger_id=1, but how would you feel about Girardi, Staal, Dubinsky, another forward and a first for Vinny? I really would hate to lose the guy, but it would set the franchise up for years to come... What do you guys think?

Staal is great, but Im not really excited about Girardi or Dubinsky. Take Dubinsky out and replace him with Zherdev and now we can proceed with the discussion.

No I wouldn't.. and what the hell does NYR want with Vinny... Gomez, Drury, Naslund, Roszival, Redden .. they all make $4 Million++. Without us taking back one of those contracts.. I doubt they can make it work.

Trading Vinny would be one of the most boneheaded moves this group could make.

You don't trade a relatively young superstar unless he is demanding it or you can't make this team better unless you do. Superstars don't come around all that often. Vinny is not the problem with this team. All of the problems with this team can be solved through free agency.

Or proper drafting.

I think the free agency approach was tried last summer. Doesn't seem to be working out too well.

With a mixture of good drafting and free agents.

how do you suppose we fix the defense? in four years it might get fixed if we draft really well. And to the OT, no...no...no.

Supposedly, the Rags are trying to trade one of their high priced defenseman and would be willing maybe even to put one of them on waivers. I really think the move would help us long term, but man, losing Vinny would really burn. I don't know how long it will take us to fix our D core otherwise though.

Neither does the Melrose experiment. Doesn't mean free agency won't solve our problems. Suffice to say it would be a combination of both drafting and free agency.

I love Vinny, but I'm not a huge fan of his contract. If we can get something alternatively like Markov, Subban/Gorges and a 2nd, for Vinny straight up, how would we say no to that?

You say no then slam the phone down, it would take more than that for me to consider it.

It didn't take me long to think of some very good responses to that:

  • Hell ****ing no.
  • I don't ****ing think so.
  • You've got to be ****ing kidding me, right?
  • Is this a ****ing joke?
You should get the picture.

Oh, and to the next person who wants to come up with some great Lecavalier trade proposal...the answer is no, we don't want that either.

Thanks.

there are certain players i don't want to part with even if the top 5 players off a roster were offered for him. Vinny is one. he stays

Ditto. Thanks for saving me from having to type that.

You can offer me any team's top 2 Dmen and a 1st round draft pick and Id still laugh in your face.

Hi Gang,

As I wrote recently over on my part of that site that this rumor came from (I'd link it, but I think I got yelled at once for doing as much), I really, really, really, really, really don't think - personally - that VL4 is going to go anywhere. I can also report that I've all but been assured as much from a VERY reliable source.

Taking it a step further, I also recently identified the core of this team to consist of VL4, Stamkos, Marty, Malone, Meszaros and Smitty and would be stunned if any of those six were dealt.

Essentially, that humongous sign out in front of The Forum won't have to be changed/updated any time soon.

All the best,

JJ

My feelings are so mixed on this issue, I don't even know what to say anymore. I just think our rebuild will cost us two more years after this season, then we'll probably be in this same position again but with Vinny 2 years older and having less value. We know Smitty, Stammy and Mez are our young stars and will all be making substantial jack come 2011. I'm pretty sure Vincent isn't going anywhere, I'm not even saying I want him traded, but how much pain must we endure?
