What other russians? Everyone makes it seem like montreal has 23 russian players, they have 1 other Russian player and it's Markov.

The Kostitsyns are not Russian, they are from Belarus and probably weren't even old enough to realize that they were part of the USSR when they were born, so please everyone stop with this "how will it affect the Russians" because it wont. Markov does his own thing so does Andrei.

They specifically said, he was cut from the roster, around 3:15 pm today.

This team won't make the playoffs and it won't be because of Kovalev or Sergei or Jaro.
The thing is while Kovalev's play was unacceptable, Gainey will eventually, later, come to the conclusion that Kovalev might have been right after all about Carbo and Co. But Kovalev needs to be accountable here. I'm just surprised to see that to get him going, you need to make him succesful on the PP and Schneider was brought in for this purpose.

No offense, but the team needs a little slapping. It's not in any position to get offended.

Did you listen to Bob Gainey's interview? Gainey NEVER said he was fired. It's be a dumb move to say that in public.

I heard the complete conference and they never said he was fired. They told him to get some rest fo the two next game because right now he can't help the team. He also said that everything is open regarding Kovy.

How is this good for the team ? I mean I know just as much as the next guy how disapointing kovalev is this year but replacing him by a Bdog guy won't help the team imo.

Look at those lines people...I feel like we have nothing left on this team it's crazy...looks like a AHL team. We're not the coyoties ffs !!

Gainey said he wanted Kovalev to stay away from the team.

It's apparent he's done as a Hab. He's not injured, and this so called "mental fatigue" is a blur image that he's done.

Gainey is more or less indirectly stating Kovalev is done, obviously you didn't get the hint.

If ANY problem ever arises between this cry-baby show off and two of my favorite, most intense Habs captains of all time (Gainey and Carbo), I hope Kovi runs off whining with his tail between his legs. Ciao, dude, aint gonna miss ya.

The fact that you cannot tell the difference betwen what Gainey says and what the Team 990 guesses what is happening is simply stirring the pot for no reason or stupidity.

Your choice to claim which it will be.

The official story for this is...

"The team plays so bad, we have no chance. We might as well rest Kovy until things get fixed."

Scary.

Kovy left home for Caps, Pens games

Alex Kovalev takes a breather during the Canadiens' Feb. 6 game against the Sabres in Buffalo. That 3-2 defeat began a four-game losing streak.

General manager Bob Gainey made a rare public appearance at a Canadiens' practice today and dropped a bombshell when he annouced that Alex Kovalev will not join the team for its road trip to Washington and Pittsburgh.

Gainey said he decided that Kovalev should take a few days away from the team. Speaking in French, Gainey said he told Kovalev the team has no need of Kovalev's services the way he's currently playing. He added that Kovalev was tired and wasn't playing with any emotion.

The GM said Kovalev's situation would be re-evaluated at the end of the week but wouldn't commit himself to saying that Kovalev would be back in the lineup for Saturday's home game against Ottawa.

Gainey said Kovalev hasn't asked for a trade and when asked whether Kovalev as on the block, he replied: "Nobody has talked to me about him." He added: "This is the trading season."

That's Ok
It will take 3 or so consecutives losses for BG to realize that Kovy was not the main problem but the putrid coaching, or non-coaching.
