Looks like Toots (I miss him), Zherdev, Kalinin, and pleasant surprise Artem Anisimov made Team Russia for the 2010 Olympics. Zherdev will be playing on the 4th line while Anisimov will be an extra forward. Should be a very interesting tourney depending on how much AA and Z continue to develop

That's gotta be pretty special for Arty. Really shocked to see Kalinin in there though. I thought the Russians were a little bit deeper defensively.

what made you think that? there aren't that many russian d-men under the age of 30 in the nhl. i think kalinin is one of two or 3.

Great news for AA, and congrats to Zherdev as well for being selected to play in his first Olympics.

Russia will be a real tough team to beat. Their defense isn't great but they are stacked at forward.

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but this isn't the real roster

That said, here is the Russian roster that NHL.com would send to the 2010 Olympic tournament, complete with 13 forwards, seven defenders and three goaltenders.

But here's hoping....

Yeah, you might want to change that. I was under the impression that this was the actual roster for 2010

Oh wow, I'm totally sorry, I read the entire thing but must have somehow overlooked that.

...Didn't mean to get everyones hopes up

Either way, the fact the NHL.com would mention AA is a good thing in itself

Damn... I was wondering why Russia would name their roster so early.

There is about .0000000000001% chance Anisimov makes the Russian roster for the Olypmics next season. Zherdev isn't even a lock. The author of that article is ignoring a number of very talented players that are playing in the KHL currently.

Why can Zherdev play for Russia? Isn't he technically Ukrainian? Dual Citizenship kinda deal?

AA being grouped in with the most elite players in the world is VERY encouraging.

Yup, his stock is high, trade him with Staal and Lundqvist to Philly for Lindros !

holy god.

Kovalchuk-Malkin-Ovechkin
(if motivated)Kovalev-Datsyuk-Semin

that is freaking scary offensively.

I tend to get certain players nationalities confused.

I really doubt they put Ovechkin out of position.

I'd guess:
Ovechkin - Malkin - Semin
Kovalchuk - Datsyuk - Radulov

The only guy playing the wrong side would be Semin, but he plays a considerable amount of RW in Washington, so he'd be fine.

Agreed, those lines should kill.

These lines aren´t even close at least three dmen from KHL (Nikulin and others) will be there. The third line will be an scoring line from KHL (Zinoviev, Zaripov, Morozov). Tereschenko might be the forth line center if Federov aint avliable.

Yeah, esp with how much hype they put into the KHL I doubt the entire roster is full of NHL and AHL players

It looks like Russia is going to have to lean on their great offense in a run-and-gun style game to make up for their lack of defense. They also have had some trouble with goaltending in years past, but I think Nabokov will do fine.

I remember reading in a Brooks article this year that Zherdev has been snubbed from Russian participation for some reason. Don't remember why. If the choice is between Filatov and Anisimov, they'd gotta go with Filatov I'd think.
