I say his time is limited.

Maybe he'll get a chance to rebound, whether he does or not, he might play for the rest of the year but won't be back next year.

I have an inkling that he'll be back and that if he is it will be Kovy-love around the city after 5 games. The guy is still an amazing hockey player, just isn't playing. Simple adjustment required. Having said that, IF Bob gets an offer he can't refuse (which he hasn't), then I'm counting on a farewell (ie. he won't trade for anything less than high impact).

Yes he will. Nobody will take him and I think gainey takes a chance on him rather then getting back a 3rd-4th rounder.

Agreed. I also believe that somewhere along the road, 2-5 games from now, he'll be back. This guy WILL help us deeply in the playoffs and with Tanguay back soon I also think our #1 line will regenerate itself with Koivu/Tangs/Kovy.

I applaud Gainey for having the fortitude and stones to make a move like this. Kovalev is a lot like Markus Naslund was in Vancouver - a guy that is WAY to inconsistent and far too unemotional to be counted on as a leader. This could be a big boost for this club - just to get him out of the lineup.

I wonder if something else transpired behind the scenes -

I say he does play after his sitdown, but I do think he is gone by the deadline.

I hope he's done here.

Let's bring some North-American talent instead.

That's also what I think, but it probably depends on how the team reacts the next few games... IF (and that's a big 'if') there's a sudden change and we start winning convincingly, there's no way he plays another shift.

Yes, he's at least getting a last chance...

2 days off and then if he doesn't snap out of his funk, he's out of here.

they just want to wake him up like the little talk gainey had with him after his disastrous 06-07 season. nobody would trade more than a 2nd round pick or a marginal prospect anyway so it doesnt help us for the playoffs.
