I don't know if anyone heard it too on CKAC this afternoon but Ron Fournier said that Gainey did the same thing with Verbeek back in Dallas. He gave him a vacation week and told him to come back after that because Bob thought he was tired. I might have misheard because I was working at the same time but i'm pretty sure it's what he said.

I think that Kovy will be back Saturday and hopefully will play better.

the only qualifier is that Dreger went with words from Kovalev, Defoy went with words someone attributed to Kovalev. Kovalev will say what suits him I guess, but I'd think local beat guys would've learned to be very wary of 2nd hand Kovalev info., once burned......

I wonder why.....maybe it has something to do with one guy said he heard something from a secret Russian informant while the other just talked to Kovalev moments before. OMG...maybe it makes sense!

Gainey is giving himself options, he has 3 weeks for things to play out, if Kovy comes back and lights it up, it was a success, worste case he has to trade him...no big deal, it's a seller's market this year anyways.

Some firm conclusions I think we can draw right now:

1. The Habs breed insanity on the Habs boards.
2. Kovalev breeds insanity on the Habs boards.
3. The trade deadline breeds insanity.
4. Gainey doesn't leak.

Go ahead, predict the future.

Dreger is directly quoting Kovalev. On sportscenter they showed the graphic with quotation marks and everything. He spoke to Kovalev.

My 2 cents, he will play saturday and until the deadline. If he is playing well, BG will keep him. If not, then he'll start to listen to offers.

The MOntreal media discredit themselves. They don't need help from TSN.

This would make sense if the news coming from the Montreal media was rationale. But it ain't. It ranges from Kovalev having said that he never wants to play another game for the Habs all the way to Kovalev thinking that Carbo is a tool.

The difference is that Dreger behaved like a real reporter and went to Kovalev. The Montreal media were typically amatuerish and went to Russia to get their report. This tells me they spoke to Kovalev, didn't like the answer they got and decided to get their news from a source one step removed from these HF boards that you hate so much.

Typical Montreal media, wasn't last year or the year before as well that a Russian paper said Kovy was saying things about Carbo too??

Was that true or not?

Not sure, either way he would never admit to it and truthfully I don't think he would say anything, and if you would I think you do it at the end of the year or if your traded.

great news! i would love to see kovy stay with the habs, well if it is last years Kovalev. We all know what this guy can do, he can be one of the most talented guys in the game if he wants to be, for whatever reason he just isnt playing right now. hopefully gainey leaving him home was the push he needed.

His source was a Russian journalist. And after the story broke out, he took it off his website.

It seems to me Kovy should have not trusted his "friend".
