I hope Sundin gets the Pronger treatment in Edmonton

- He lied to the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs

- Rumors are that he encouraged the other players to go down with the ship with him

This coming from a guy who was paid VERY well in Toronto to be consistent. Not a star, but consistant

Yes not only does he deserve the Toronto faithful to boo, as far as I'm concerned he is a traitor and hopefully is never honored by the team.

He could have just said, no I do not want to be traded rather than the "we still have a chance" BS or the "I want to be a part of the whole trip, not just half"
Did you just say sundin was not a star?.

Sundin was more then just Points, Take a look at his faceoff statistics over his career.

True, but if he felt that things were so bad for his career here, why didn't he leave when he was still in his prime? Maybe because we paid him a pretty penny and there were some good teams from 1998-2004?

Way to revise history.

Mats Sundin should be booed, and will be, in my opinion.

I know he was a great player for them, but the condition he left them in should not be easily forgetten.

Toronto Maple Leafs could have had huge assetts for him. Possibly:
- a young top six forward
- a top-notch prospect
- a first round pick

This could've started the rebuilding process earlier and made it faster. He impeded Toronto's rebuilding progress.

Secondly, the hypocrisy shown by Sundin is something I don't understand.

How do you say you don't want to leave Toronto in Spring, but join another team in Winter?

How do you not want to be a "rental player" in March, yet join a team in the middle of the season? Is that not being a rental player? He stated that he wanted to join a team from the training camp as that's how you battle as a team and win the Stanley Cup, but he does the exact opposite. That alone would want me to boo Mats Sundin.

Ok, anyways, this was my little rant about this whole issue.

Far from a boo, It was maybe a 2 second boo by maybe 100 fans who were so intoxicated they started talking french.

Will he get booed? No, not much. I expect the Leafs will make some sort of classy pre-game gesture to difuse a lot of the bad feelings.

Should he? That's a little tougher.

He had a right to stay, or to go. He earned that choice. But the Leafs had a right to say "Hey, if you want out, at least do it at the deadline when we can all win".

Instead he refused to waive, talked about retiring as a Leaf, gave his phoney "October-though-June" speech... and then refused to consider an extension. He had his eye on the door the day after the deadline. Later we find out he was sulking about the Leafs even thinking about dealing him.

Let's call it like it is. He acted like just another spoiled athelete diva. And that was even before the summer-long (and beyond) debacle that had fans around the NHL laughing at him.

On the other hand, he gave us 14 great years. None of the deadline stuff changes any of that.

Bottom line, he deserves to hear boos in his first game and cheers in his last. And unfortunately, it looks like Saturday will be both of those games rolled into on.

Tough call.

It would be a disgrace to Leaf Nation if even one person booed.

personally i think the best message to mats would be silence. For being a dick at the end even though he served with class for all those years.

The man changed his mind over a whole summer season of "soul searching". How... human... of him.

Seriously though, all you can really fault him for is being human. People do what's best for them. People change their minds. People can lie. People will prioritize what's important to them.

Never should have given him a NTC. He had the right to decide to stay or not.

Cliff Fletcher tried to publicly shame him into waiving his no trade clause instead of being respectful about it.

Why did Mats Sundin "owe" it to the Leafs to break a contractual agreement that he took less money so he could have it in his deal?

He owes it to the Leafs to make them a better team in 5 years? Why? Didn't they owe it to him to give him better teammates? Didn't they owe it to him to give him a better chance at winning a Cup?

Maybe the man changed his mind in the Summer? At the time he didn't want to be a rental player and he was clearly conflicted about whether he even wanted to come back this year. What if he comes back to Vancouver next season for the full season? Is he still a rental player?

How was Naslunds reception in Vancouver this season? Was he boo'd by the fans or was it split? As for Mats.... he's on the opposition now so it's fair game. Nothing personal. He gave us some good years and is still one of my favourite players.

Yes he will be. Sundin is practically public enemy #1 here.
And if it happens I will voluntarily submit that Leafs fans everywhere are an embarassment.
We apologize to you all for out existance.

He will because Torontonians are idiots...

I think at the beginning of the game it'll be a mixed reception and then during the game the boos will overtake.

No kidding, eh? Jovo had a lot of good seasons for us, but we simply couldn't keep him because we couldn't match Phoenix's offer. Jovo was able to get $6.5 million, and we could only afford half of that, so good for him.

Toronto fans who are whinning about Sundin should grow up in my opinion. Vancouver fans are not better though.

If Canuck fans can cheer for Bertuzzi post-Vancouver, then Leafs fans can cheer for Sundin.

Though they might start to boo after he scores 3 or 4 goals.

I am guessing yes. If he allowed himself to get delt at the trade deadline last season he would have had a hero's welcome, but the fact he cost Toronto a nice package of picks and prospects will leave a bad taste for alot of fans
