If Philly is putting JVR on the block he better be wearing Rangers blue next season.

How the hell is Nik Antropov on the list considering the other names listed there there. If Nik Antropov played for Tampa would he been included? If you want to include a Leaf for the sake of being a Leaf why not Kaberle or Kubina, they a hell of alot more interesting then Antropov

Who would be willing to take on the 4 years left on Smyth's deal? I'd think that most teams would be REALLY hesitant to take that contract on long term. If he was going to be a UFA - it'd be A LOT easier.

Maybe the Islanders trade for him!

Notice that he specifies a first as Burke's price for Antropov.

Antro is on the list because he is about 99% likely out of TOR by March 4th, and hes not a bad player either (Don't know if he will fetch Burkey's Price Tag but who knows)...Kabby and Kubina are likely to stay unless a ridiculous offer comes in for either...Also, a lot of teams are looking to add size, which Antro has..

Cole + for Kovalev makes a lot of sense for both teams. I could see the Habs and Oilers pulling the trigger on that deal sooner rather than later since the cap hits are quite close, both players address each team's needs, and they're both UFAs after the season.

He's outplayed most of the other forwards on that list this year.

And, yet last week Dreger claimed that Antropov was basically worthless and that Burke was having trouble druming up interest.

I don't believe either view. I think he'll get a 2nd rounder and a good prospect. But, I'm just pointing out once again why Dreger is one of the least trustworthy sources out there. His columns don't seem to have even a vague foundation in reality.

Kovalev doesn't make much sense, IMO. He's soft and he's a cancer and he's a UFA.

Cole is useless in his own right but I'd rather move him for picks or prospects than dump him for a guy who's all but ensured to walk away next year and let's be honest - Kovalev is not the difference between a mediocre tweener team and a playoff contender.

This deal seems to make sense, however the Cole provides grit and Kovalev is soft. Grit is much more important in the playoffs I think. I'd like to see the Oilers keep Cole, however there is a lot of rumors circulating so I dunno.

Huh, how many would be upset if Tambellini went and got Smyth instead of Kovalev?

There is something called negotiating.

You really think ANY GM will ask for anything but a higher price for their assets to being with?

I agree with you. Still, I think Dreger meant that there weren't any serious offers. In this article he was talking about asking price, so there's a bit of a difference.

Dreger's a guy who you have to take with a grain of salt. He can be very good, but sometimes he writes head scratchingly bad things. Still, he's way ahead of some of the newspaper types in my books - Garrioch, Simmons, etc.

Not to take anything away from Cole as a player, but:

Kovy Playoff's
112 Games 42 Goals 53 Assists 95 Points +5 and 0.848PPG

Cole Playoffs
25 Games 6 Goals 3 Assists 9 Points -3 and 0.36PPG

Grit and strength are good for the playoffs, but Kovy has shown that he is a playoff warrior and easily beats out Cole on this point.

well for philly to move JVR inside the division the other team will be overpaying for philly to consider it as well as making up for possible be a killer against philly.

I'd do Lehtonen for Van Riemsdyk in a heartbeat.

Thrashers appear likely to miss out on Tavares and probably will get a quality D out of this draft.

We have too many G and not enough scoring F. Logical sway from the ATL perspective.

I would definitely keep Cole over Kovie, Oilers would be taking a big risk by acquiring Kovie, it would create a big buzz though (just because it's "Kovalev")

Trading JVR (who has pretty much had a subpar year) for a goalie does make sense. I can't see Biron carry the flyers deep into the playoffs. The flyers have had goalie problems for a while (Robert Esche and Niittymaki can't be counted on to make the big saves), Lehtinen would make sense as he is an upgrade from the current situation.

Ask Nashville about a goalie prospect and a defenseman....

You guys want to talk about kovalev. I'm sure his most memorable moment came in the playoffs in overtime against boston on a certain glen murray breakaway winner?
