Wow this guy is for real. Another goal and 2 assists tonight as the University of Denver's top blueliner. He's 6'3 and of course will fill out in the next couple years. What are his chances in the coming season or the following?
Just wanted to see what you all thought of this guy, he isn't spoken about much
Too early to tell and I don't really follow or watch University of Denver games... I guess hovering around a PPG as a 'freshman' (is that what they call it?) is impressive.
Most freshman don't make the jump after their freshman year, or even sophomore year. If he's going to get to even the AHL, it'll be in 2 years minimum.
At least, that's how most college guys develop, a bit slow, but usually reaching most of their potential.
He wasn't even expected to make the team this season, he is their top blueliner as a freshman and has all the tools to be a dominant defenseman (think a better Christoph Schubert + a great hockey sense)
Wiercioch has as more points this year in the NCAA than he did last year in the USHL.

not often do you go from a good player in one league to a great player in a higher league. His trajectory is very high, but he seems to have walked into a dream opportunity in denver for his skillset.
It's not just about development when it comes to leaving college hockey for pro hockey. It would be interesting to see an interview with the guy and see if he intends to stay the full 4 years no matter what.
I'm impressed that he's outscoring Joe Colborne, a forward on his team who is 9mo older and taken 16th overall in the same draft year.

... so does that mean Wiercioch is a top 50 prospect as well?
It's because, according to HF, Ottawa's prospects are all busts or just bad

Well, that kind of picks was the trend of Murrays in the last draft. Player that got hot and were on the rise. Karlsson, Petersson, Grant and Wiercioch. Good way to find gems IMO

I think HF goes by the year before prospects interms of overall team rankings.
No one could have predicted that Karlsson, Smith, Weircioch would be so good
Here was here in town during the Canada Junior Team Selection Camp. I didn't really find that he stood out and I don't think he was close to making the team. He's a good prospect but it's still too early to know how good he is going to be. I certainly don't expect to see him around for a while.
He'll need minimum 1 more year in the NCAA (he may want to finish his school there and play 2-3 more years)... And one year of seasoning in the AHL and hopefully he'll be ready.
I hope the Sens show patience with there prospects, and not try and rush any of them into the league. Especially with Wiercoch and E. Karlsson.

No one even expected him to be asked to the selection camp so an invite is promising enough. He's really risen above expectations, if he'd have been playing like this a year ago he would have been a first round pick.
Wiercoch is really going to open some eyes next year when he makes team Canada at the World Juniors and plays very well...
Judging by what people who have seen him live say, I think you're right.
What's the timeline on this guy turning pro? At 18 I assume he'll be in the NCAA for 3 more years, then does he go to Bingo, or does he cut short his NCAA career and head there sooner?
It's an intriguing situation if he continues his stellar play. Perhaps Matt Carle was rushed into NHL action - even though he was excellent in his first year - but he didn't even really sniff the A.

I figure at best he is two years away, another year in college then a year in the AHL. More then likely it will take longer then that but you never know he may surprise and make it to the show sooner.

Agreed. I think he is realitically 2-3 years away. He has some filling out to do and his skating could use a little work. I think he is the type of player that will need some time to develop and the Sens should be patient with him...
Anyone able to give us a little comparison between Wiercioch and Weber at the same age? I am pretty sure that Wiercioch is well ahead of Weber's totals at the same age I think..
I am really excited about our Blue line in the future..
We could stand to ironically have the best puck moving defense in the league if Lee, E. Karlsson, Wiercioch, Picard, and M. Karlsson (Even though his skating is of concern he has shown QUITE the improvement in just a year).
